Hey guys, gotta question here. I love boxing and started training recently. It’s awesome and has increased my confidence greatly. I know I can handle a scrap if I have to. I am concerned however, after watching the ufc last night that one of these dirty wrestler types might be able to grab me and hold me down in a real street fight. I’m kinda shocked after watching Couture molest Toney like that. We all know Toney would own Couture in a ring, but anywhere outside of that, Toney would be humped unconscious. I don’t want some guys humping and groping me in a real fight like that. What boxing techniques should I use to defend myself in a real fight against someone who doesn’t fight fair with their hands like a man? I know boxing is best but I wanna be able to use it outside of a ring if I have to. Thanks.
Wait, so it seems like you guys are saying that boxing alone is not enough to survive in a real fight situation? It sounds like you are all suggesting I cross train in other disciplines so as to be able to defend myself? I'm not sure you guys are real boxing fans.
this line is an oxymoron...fair fight and street fight dont go together..anything goes homie
Hahaha, this is so true. My older brother once got into a fight, protecting my other brother and fish hooked the guy. He put his finger right through the guys cheek! Anything goes when you're fighting on the street.
Just came back from a quick run and am confused by the responses. I was asking for boxing techniques that could be used to counter these unseemly grappling techniques. I don't want to study other forms, only boxing. We all know boxing is a complete martial art unto itself, so why are you guys suggesting I look outside of it? I believe boxing can beat any style, but most of you guys do not seem so sure. I don't understand.
How old are you....worried about gettin wrastled?

DON'T WORRY GUYS. Eventually the fighters will get so pissed of losing to these sorts of guys, that they will actually go and learn and develop some great TAKEDOWN DEFENCE.
Thats the answer, its not the wrestlers fault for laying a preying. Its the guy who lets himself be vunerable to it. And eventually some fighters that are prone to it, will say, "enough is enough, im going to develop a really good sprawl, i am going to develop good sweeps of my back etc" Because at the end of the day everyone wants to be a successful fighter, so they will practice it, till they can be lay n preyed no more!
I think you can blame the guys on their backs, as much as the guy on top.
But anyway there is only so much, we as humans can take before we say enough, and decide to take action. We learn from our mistakes.
So its best people learn now, its not fun to be layed on for 15 minutes.
Yeah.
To be fair, Floyd Mayweather did beat The Big Show. So boxing is 1-1 with wrestling/MMA really.
Exactly, and Floyd was the smaller guy, so really he should get 2 points.
I still think Toney should've gone for the tombstone piledriver :nonono:
Get your tag partner to distract the ref, then hit them with a steel chair and cover for the 1-2-3. It works on TV all the time.
Aye.
The other night, me and my boy were walking home, and these fags tried to jump us. My boy caught him with a chair round the back and I pinned him while my mate went to work on his boy. It's the way to do it, IMO.

So help me to understand. Are you training to be a pro boxer? Or are you training to help you street fight?
If it is the second, then that is lame....
If it is the first: My advice would be, keep your fights in the ring...
Way more things to worry about in street fights than wrestlers...

I really can't believe how big of an issue this has become after last night...If you just started training, my advice would be, keep your fights in the ring...

Not that I take you serious, but this^^^is the best advice in this topic. Period!

worry about getting punched in the dick bro
street fights aren't supposed to be fair lol
Sprawl and brawl like CroCop did in PRIDE; watch the crocop vs coleman fight, the wrestler got spanked.
If you're a Sherdog fight, remember what Vitor Belfort the boxer did to your wrestler Matt Lindland.
the best way to Counter Wrestling would be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
learn how to choke a guy out while you are on your back or something because unless your a wrestler yourself it is really nothing you can do to stop a wrestler from taking you down lol
