That's basically what MMA fans are saying on sherdog forums. I encourage these fools to try and square up with a legit in shape non washed up boxer and see how fast they get K.O'd.

I don't see how rolling on the ground like homos is gonna be useful in a street fight, especially if someone can get their hands on a knife or a bat.
Of course, any contact sport is by nature. Boxing was born in the streets and still today there's underground fighting.
Boxing is the evolution as a sport that started with streetfighting.
Never underestimate the element of surprise.
If a MMA fighter and a boxer met on the streets it would go down like this:
MMA fighter is trained in all aspects of fighting, including striking, now remember the MMA fighter DOESNT KNOW he's fighting a trained boxer, so naturually he's going to attempt to stand up with this anonymous ******* who dares challenge me, I'm a ****ing cage fighter.
Now the boxer only knows how to do one thing, but he's trained in that one thing down to a mother****ing science, so he's going to square up with the MMA fighter.
I believe by the time the MMA fighter realized "Holy ****, this guy can throw a ****ing punch" he's going to be knocked out on the ground. I truly believe an MMA figher in a street fight is going to attempt to box, just because he's trained in boxing a little bit, and he's going to be arrogant and assume the regular civilian has no ****ing clue on how to fight.
What happened today was a sanctioned fight. We all KNEW Tony was a boxer. Couture already knew he wasnt going to stand a chance if he tried to box with him.
In a street fight the MMA fighter doesn't know the guy he's fighting knows how to box or vise-versa. But all fights start standing up. So that's my two-cents.
Never underestimate the element of surprise. I'd give the boxer an edge in a street fight.
those are great points.
Boxing has its place in a street fight. Indeed, it was highly valuable to this guy
Nothing against locks and takedowns etc., they take a lot of skill and are destructive. But this guy would have had his ass handed to him had he gone to ground. Proper striking technique is always valuable, which boxing provides.
its especially useless when a big deal of u being a boxer is made of it and ur opponent knows to go for a takedown right away..
and also useless when ur as fat as toney.. who came in 20 pounds heavier than his last fight
Grown ass men shouldn't be getting into street fights. If you're over, let's say 19 years old, and you're still getting into street fights, you are a man-child.

would be nice if yo give me some green k if you like it :D
It would only depend on the fighter really, there is a lot more to street fighting then both MMA and Boxing. From Bruce Lee's mouth, there is finger jabbin' to the eye, kick to the groin and biting. Now try to put someone who's willin' to do all that into a submission; see how that works.
Yea a good bite usually makes somebody let go of a choke hold.
What about if the good mma fighter fought a good boxer...

well.....a FIGHT does not only consist of only punching. It all depends on your opponent's skillset/level. A boxer have a hard time fighting a good wrestler........
staying on topic. No, boxing is NOT unless, but its not the only thing you need in a street fight. street fights don't have standing 8 counts and "breaks" when fighters grab each other..
Guns are the most useful in a street fight. I want to see the most fit MMA fighter take on a fat old guy with a pistol pointed at him from 10 yards away.
Yup big puss!es always hang with his buddies and carry guns cause they can't fight for sh!t. You take his buddies and his guns and all he has is his big mouth but is like a scare rabbit in the woods. LOL
I'm an MMA fan over a boxing fan but boxing is one of the best possible things to know on the street. The ability to move and throw quick combinations and keep yourself from becoming surrounded is one of the best things you could know. But one on one, an MMA fighter will win the vast majority of confrontations.
Exactly. And both sports are about 1vs1 confrontations, right?! People don't realize how hard it is to catch a guy coming in for the takendown with a single punch and KO him. Nearly impossible. Almost every MMA fight goes to the ground when one of the fighters wants it to.

boxing useless in a streetfight?? no
against a mma fighter in the streets? still useful but boxer would lose 9 times out of ten
Once again, lol @ MMA fans who think MMA = Street fighting. They're two completely different things, MMA is nothing like a street fight. NOTHING.
Wanna know what I'd do the moment some fat ugly **** tries his wrestling on me? I'm ripping his balls off and biting his neck oh and headbutting him around the eyes/ doing anything to get him off me.
The style of wrestling used in the UFC doesn't work in a street fight. It just doesn't. It's a style of wrestling used in sports, not for a street fight, the same way you're not gonna be shoulder rolling or clinching in a street fight if you're a boxer.
lolol.
straight up. In a street fight....if necessary, I'm biting, punching/kicking balls, headbutting, elbowing, scratching, eye-gouging, and trying to find a blunt object....or the knife I carry around with me...stabbing someone in the eye.
In the end.....the fact of the matter is this...there are NO RULES in a street fight. Boxer/MMA, or whoever, can get jumped and gang-beaten, hit with a bat, cut with a knife...or shot.
I think you guys don't have much of an idea what a REAL streetfight looks like. From my experience growing up in the South Bronx since the mid-80's...street fights aren't pretty at all.
I didn't say there weren't bad eggs. BTW I am not saying MMA fighters are thugs. My reference was towards street fighting.gentlemen like Valero, Mayweather, Mayorga, Toney, etc....
straight up classy guys...role models, if I may say so myself, who never talk bad about the opponent.
get off the boxing high-horse.
