James Toney is worth a lot more to the UFC, Dana White, etc.... as the WINNER and not the loser.
This is why he is matched "softly" with a 47 year old man. If Dana wanted to abuse boxing and make a mockery out of boxing he would have matched Toney against a current UFC heavyweight.
But he did not. he matched him with a old, battle worn has been who may have zero left in his tank.
I am going on record saying Dana White wants and intends for James Toney to WIN this fight tonight.
The big pay day comes in Toney's 2nd UFC fight after the MMA fans believe Toney is "credible". At that point Toney will be matched with one of the top heavyweights in the UFC in a PPV Main Event extravaganza. At that point James's lights will go out.

what have you been smokin'?
White will want Couture to beat Toney, he'll want to capture the casual fight fan and make them think that MMA is the better sport, an old boxer beating one of the UFC's most famous fighters would be embarrassing for White.
Dana White wants Randy to win. To prove that a has been who's almost 50 years old can destroy a top boxer. Toney is not a top boxer anymore but that's how he is being hyped up to be at the moment.
Dana could've put him in there with a striker, but no he picked an outstanding grappler. You must be smoking some real good **** if you think Dana White wants Toney to win.
Toney is a top heavyweight
White put Toney against Couture so that he'd have an excuse if Toney happens to beat him, he'd say he was old and it was a lucky shot, but good fight etc. However if he'd put Toney against one of their heavyweight champions and Toney scored the upset KO it would make UFC look like a joke.
1. 1st of all it's not corrupt if you INTEND someone to win by matching them with an inferior opponent. there's nothing inherently illegal in that because it's not news that Couture is almost 50 years old
2. on the other hand no one would be surprised if it WAS corrupt seeing as how its sister corporation elite XC or whatever it was called was shut down due to corruption last year when they found out that the guy that beat Kimbo was told to not use that much ground game deliberately to give Kimbo a chance and prop him up. Or something like that
Elite XC was no sister company of UFC. It was intended to be UFC's top comp. Get your facts straight.
word?........
just google it. try some of these
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2008/10/elite-xc-exec-k.html
"Petruzelli not only won by knockout in 14 seconds, he provoked an investigation by boxing officials in Florida by telling a radio station that Elite XC promoters paid him extra to keep the fight in stand-up mode, which would play to Slice’s strength as a street fighter who had gained legions of fans in fights replayed on YouTube."

exactly perfect point. If Dana TRULY wanted Toney to win he would of put him in against a striker like Chuck Liddel. This would be a super easy fight for Toney. Toney would annihilate Liddel with a knockout in like 45 seconds of the first round.
But instead Dana put Toney in with one of the strongest pure grapplers/wrestlers/submission artists in MMA history Randy Couture.

Technically in Lesnars UFC debut Mir was a former (and future) UFC HW champion and only lost his belt due to injury.
So thats not entirely true, also Frank Shamrock fought for thr UFC LHW title in his first UFC fight.
who cares Couture is not only a "former" champ just like Mir but is far greater than Mir and will go down in MMA hall of fame way ahead of Mir so in that regard you're contradicting yourself because that means they are putting Toney in against a hall of famer ex-champ
Are you saying that the UFC is corrupt?

Dana White would never and has NEVER matched a first timer against a champ. What are you talking about? Even Brock Lesnar didn't in his first few fights. I hate MMA and hate White even more but I have to back him up on this one point.

Toney is just being used to maximize the curiousity for UFC. He has made a career in boxing, and I doubt it if he can convert himself overnight into a non-boxer. We will see him act like a boxer, and a boxer has too many limitations in mix martial arts.
i want Toney to win but im looking forward to his post fight interview if/when he loses :D
:haha: :haha: Haha, that would be so embarassing for Toney. I hope he doesn't give one.

Can he choose NOT to do that? Cause i doubt he'd give one if unless he HAD to to get paid
Idk man i feel like White picked an opponent for Toney that the Public wouldnt be outraged by, but at the same time an opponent that would kick the sh*t out of Toney in as little time as possible.
If he gave Toney a title shot the fans would have put up an enormous fuss.
Also this is a pretty big opportunity for the UFC to take steps forward in terms of acceptance as a sport.
