A comeforward fighter with decent speed good power, great chin, loves to go the the body, can take your punch and come with some of his own, and can last 6 rounds. Margarito set the Blueprint to beat Cotto, suspect win but still set the blueprint, go to his body and pressure him, Pacquiao also followed it, Took his best punch a few times and started to pressure after a couple of rounds. Cotto is in for a long night, or short who knows, this is not a flame provoking or red k green k war, just my opinion. Keep this a civalized discussion.
when the fight happens, lets bet 5 million on that not happening
You want to make a 5M bet on Chavez Jr. not stopping him? No.can.do. I'm confident enough to pick Chavez Jr. to win, I'm down for a 5M bet on that. PM me if your down :boxing:
You are comparing Jenning with Foreman??
World champ vs nobody?
Santos is not the best boxer out there but Margarito couldn't knock him down
Santos clearly wasn't the same guy who faught Margarito. Also, I said "In that people thought Cotto still had it". Not really comparing the two.
Cotto doesn't have the same punch resistance he once had. Lucky for him Foreman never sat down on his punches/ isn't even a hard puncher. Like I said before, I'm not a fan of either and I like them both, but I strongly believe Chavez Jr. is gonna peek away at what little Cotto has left. Foreman is no different from Michael Jennings in that, IN THAT people thought Cotto still had it, while me personally knew Cotto was on the slide. I'm picking Jr. to stop him, size will be a huge factor too.

Chavez Jr. vs. Duddy was suppose to be competitive; lets not forget that that a lot of people on here picked Duddy to win. Me, I was leaning towards Chavez Jr. to win. Chavez Jr. not only won but dominated from start to finish, also show much greater stamina then we're used to seeing. If Chavez Jr. improved that much in such little time; then obviously he'll continue to get better and better.
I still LOL at these threads.
This guy was fighting Troy Rowland 9 months ago and now people think he can beat THE Miguel Cotto? At 154????
He beat Duddy at 160 guys. That's important. Stop kidding yourselves.
It's no hate on his name. He's just as overrated as any hype job in boxing.
Cotto humiliates him and hopefully Arum feeds him to Pavlik and Pavlik ends his career.
Cotto may not be the same fighter he was pre-Margarito but I have no doubt that he beats Chavez Jr, and keep in mind that Chavez Jr will probably weight drain himself to get to 154, so that puts things in Cotto's favor even moreso.

the thing is many in boxingscene just dont like Chavez Jr as a fighter not saying the guys in here posting hate Chavez Jr but you see the same crap over and over that he is a bum and is going to get his ass kicked sometimes i get the impression they just dont like him becaues he is useing his dads name to make money but everybody seems to forget Chavez Jr is not the only fighter to fight bums now his team feel he is ready to step up. look what happen to many other fighter over the past few years who have step up and end up geting there ass kicked if they should have fought more they would have been ready. so what is the problem
How do you know he doesn't have the mental tools? Roach himself said the kid showed up and everyone said the kid wouldn't last 1 week. After 1 week, it was Chavez that was waking Roach up at 5 am to go running. He was going 12 hard rounds after just 3 weeks in the gym.
This is a different fighter than pre Freddie Roach. I agree, I think Cotto is the better fighter, with the better pedigree but let's not write this kid off if he comes prepared which we have no reason to think he won't after what we saw in the Duddy fight.
I think Cotto is a much better fighter skill wise but I also think because of his size, length and physical attributes, he can give Cotto a very tough fight. Couple that with the fact that Cotto might not be the same fighter, he might be catching Cotto at the right time.
This exactly. Roach tested him in training and liked what he saw to keep him there for the rest of camp, Chavez will improve and improve camp by camp, the kid made a huge improvement from barely bruising a journey man in the Pac Cotto Undercard to Giving a solid B level fighter a Pizza Face. That was a brutal beat down.
This fight is going to be entertaining before Cotto finishes him off but the only reason this fight can be competitive in the beginning is due to Cotto not being in his prime anymore
Truthfully, I think he looked good in the Duddy fight, but nothing that really blew me away. You also have to take into account what kind of fighter Duddy is, he's not necessarily the most dangerous guy to fight. I think Chavez Jr is GOOD, but to me he's not a standout fighter. I believe training preps you physically and mentally for a fight, but the experience factor coupled with the fact that Chavez Jr hasn't a fought a REAL puncher in his career and now he's going to fight someone like Cotto, who doesn't have 1 punch power but more accumilative, we have yet to see how he handles adversity, or punishment at the high level for that mattter.
Anyway I see it, and I'm not a huge fan of either, I just see Cotto being too much for Chavez Jr to handle. Let's see if Chavez Jr stamps his mark.
I guess what we are saying is the same exact thing. I just think that to say someone doesn't have the mental strength is ridiculous. I was very impressed with Chavez in the Duddy fight, not because Duddy is this great fighter but because most people prior to that fight said Chavez was getting KO'd.
Then when Chavez stood toe to toe with Duddy, who is as tough a fighter as they come and dominated him, now people are saying Duddy is nothing but trash.
I think the kid really stepped his game up and his training was second to none. Look at the kids body in that fight, he looked like a different fighter.
I'm not a big fan of either and i agree with you I think Cotto should beat him, I just don't think it will be the cake walk that people think it will be and like I said, if Cotto's tank is getting low, I wonder if Chavez has caught him at the right time?

He can lead the horse to water, doesn't mean he'll drink. Freddie is a great trainer, but this isn't the Matrix where they can implant all the mental tools you'll need and you're good to go. Experience and a level of class is gonna show Chavez Jr doesn't belong or isn't ready yet for the caliber fighter Cotto is, even after 2 losses.

I agree with some of the above posts, Pre Roach Chavez would get anihalated By any version of Cotto, but Roach said it himself a couple of times, "Chavez Jr has what it takes, but hes just a lazy trainer" and Roach will push Chavez's body to the limit in training for a fight of this caliber. You can believe that.
Cotto also has Manny Stewart now too!!

Chavez is getting his ass handed to him.
They've been feeding this kid like some have called "Cab Drivers", and now he's getting thrown in with someone like Cotto, and the edge they're giving Chavez Jr is Freddie Roach?
I expect a hell of an ass whipping on the part of Cotto.

Chavez aint half the fighter that Margarito was and is.
Since moving up to 154 and 160 his KO% is down.
If the best names on your record are Vanda(Almost loss first fight), Duddy(Living punching bag) and Cuello(Alveraz destroyed him in 6) and you can't knock these guys out, somethings wrong.
Cotto Destroys Chavez.
i wouldnt put to much on Canelo win over Cuello when that guy had trouble makeing that cacthweight :poke: if anything Chavez fought the better version of Cuello with out that lame @ss cacthweight
Chavez has the size, but that may not be enough,Foreman also had size & got stopped!!I don't think Chavez jr. has what it takes to pressure Cotto like Margarito did!!
