one of the writer's contention why he placed floyd over pac is that floyd never fought at catchweight:
"Where they have been on the scale is weighed against where they are right now and the right now wins. Where they are is Welterweight and both have shown to belong physically in the class but Floyd, of note, didn’t need any catch weights for his best win in class. Mayweather is the best Welterweight in the world until proven otherwise and in a choice between two active Welterweights, that’s enough for number one here."
i think the writer missed the point that manny started at 105 lbs and his fight with cotto was 145... that is a 40 lbs jump. mayweather started his career at 130 lbs and his heaviest was at 154 lbs. that's only a 24 lbs jump.
40+ lbs to 24 lbs!!! come on!!!!
Sick of people acting like a catchweight is some horrible thing no one ever does.
Lots of catchweight title fights have happened. Pacquiao-Cotto was no horrible catchweight, and it was the only catchweight fight Pac has ever fought.
But somehow that equals Pacquiao being some catchweight monster.
No it did. But we were comparing Pacs start at 106 and Floyds at 131.
Plus those loses arent what defines Pac, it is his wins
Yep and i'm saying Floyd could have made that weight if he turned pro at the same age, so if Pacquiao gets credit for turning pro at an earlier age then he should get discredit for losing.
So his early start to his pro career and lack of experience had nothing to do with his losses?

Haha
Your trying to make a connection with 2 completely unrelated things

You was trying to use Pacquiaos move up in weight as a reason he should be number one, it's plain as day to see. If you are going to take into account his move up in weight you should also take into account his losses.

am i reading a post from a 3d grader? LOL
AGAIN, the reason why i posted this thread is because BS said floyd is number 1 coz one of the reasons is that he did not ask for catchweight.
since when did i contend their record? LOL
go look for the right thread for your post, little girl

Mayweather 0 losses
Pacquiao 3 losses and a draw
That says it all
Calzaghe 46-0
Floyd 41-0
So Calzaghe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Floyd
That must be true by your logic
Mayweather 0 losses
Pacquiao 3 losses and a draw
That says it all

i was trying to make a point that pac experienced more adversity at an early age coz he did not fight with pillows for gloves, headgears, etc.
and by the way this is about the BS p4p ranking. the last time i checked, amateur career is not included.
AND? You was trying to make out that Pacquiao was much smaller when he wasn't, if Mayweather chose to start his pro career at the same age as Pac he would have moved up the same amount of weight.
Floyd First fight---131
Pac First fight----106
^^^^^that says it all
They were around the same size at the same age, Mayweather was smart and polished his skills before turning pro.
let me clear this out, im talking about professional boxing: standard gloves, 3 minute 12 round max bout, NO HEAD GEAR.
my contention is pac started his pro career at 105 lbs and will be fighting at 151 lbs (difference of 46 lbs), his heaviest.
gayweather started his pro career at 130 lbs and his heaviest was at 154 lbs (difference of 24 lbs), his heaviest
if one of the justifications why floyd is #1 p4p, as per boxingscene, is that he did not fight at catchweights, then i dont buy that. they should edit that part coz it's basically nonsense.
and mayweather was fighting amateurs, you said? LOL and of course you do know pac was fighting professional boxing already.
floyd = shorter rounds, 4 rounds per bout, pillows for gloves, HEADGEAR
pac = well, you do know how professional boxing looks like, right?

You do know that Mayweather was a light flyweight in the Amateurs at the same age as Pac was when he started his Pro career.

ah ok... you mean amateurs with highly padded gloves, shorter rounds, maximum of 4 rounds, and, oh, head gear? yah right!
pac at 16 was fighting guys older than him - 3 minute rounds, mimimum of 6 round per bouts in his first few fights, and, hey wait - without head gear!
i got your point ;-)

You've heard of a Jack Ass right?
Well youre a PacAss......
whatever.... you gotta admit i made a good point right? imagine... pac started at 105. if he made the same 24 lbs jump, which is floyd's heaviest weight difference (from 130 lbs - 154 lbs), and that would land him (pac) fighting at superfeatherweight (130 lbs) at least. pac never asked for catchweights only until at least fighting at welterweight.
now if floyd will do the same amount of weight pac jumped (total of at least 140 lbs) then floyd could have at least be fighting at lightheavyweight. floyd never fought beyond the superwelterweight division.
so this is my question:
does floyd have the balls to fight at the light heavyweight division without asking for a catchweight? honestly i dont think so.
pac: started at 105 lbs; heaviest fight 147 lbs. (a difference of 42 lbs.) next fight will be at 151 lbs (a difference of 46 lbs!)
floyd: started at 130 lbs; heaviest fight at 154 lbs. (a difference of 24 lbs)
