He was actually a pretty good fighter. He didn't have much power, but he didn't seem to really sit down on his punches. But he had good defense so that was actually a pretty good win for Lopez since he was only man to stop Luevano.
The other other thing seemed to lack was desire and killer instinct, like Chad Dawson. He was no where near as skilled or athletic as Dawson, but he put on some pretty entertaining fights when he faced a tough opponent who pressured him like Santiago and "Turdsack", lol.
Kellerman said Luevano wasn't even a fan or had much interest in boxing outside of making a living and support his family. I am sure he made some good money opening up for Pacquiao fights, but now he can chill and play all the video games he wants and spend time with his family.
He sucked and he never beat an elite fighter in his entire career. Why is he getting praise?
Because he was better than 98% of the others who try to box professionally. If you can't praise the guy, at least respect him.
Proof he was a light punching bum and the Ricans praise him as one of Lopez's so called great wins.
Will you look at that!
Three of the top 10 fighters have been beaten by Lopez.
Marquez will soon make it 4.
no great loss to the sport if you ask me a guy with no passion for it shouldn't do it there are easier ways to make a living then getting beat up that's for sure
Well that's surprising, he was a pretty good fighter. I know he was making a pretty good living fighting on undercards on a regular basis so maybe he saved up enough to get out of the sport now and do something else. He's had a good career.
Kind of weird though considering I read that he started training for a comeback not that long ago, maybe he felt like he didn't have it anymore or something, his style depended quite a bit on reflexes.
Wasn't it a case of him just not enjoying the sport? I remember during the Lopez fight Lampley said something about him just enjoying playing his playstation and hanging about. It may be too difficult for him to get the motivation when it was barely there in the first place.
Proof he was a light punching bum and the Ricans praise him as one of Lopez's so called great wins.I just lurk the forums most of the time but why do you always have something negative to say about Puerto Ricans?.......You have some deep rooted issues you need to sort out.
But as far as the thread subject goes, I guess its better to retire to early rather than too late, Luevano was a good solid fighter who won a trinket so credit to him if he feels the need to retire.
Former WBO Featherweight World Champion Steve Luevano has retired from Boxing according to his manager Cameron Dunkin who said the decision was made late last night. Luevano 29, finishes with a 37-2-1(15) record. He held the title from July 2007 when he claimed the belt on the road in England scoring an impressive eleventh round stoppage over local hero Nicky Cook. He went on to make 5 successful defence’s before losing his crown to JuanMa Lopez in February. Over the summer Luevano was let go from his contract with Top Rank who had promoted him for his entire career. It’s not known what Luevano intends to do next but on behalf of spam.com congratulations on a great career Steven enjoy retirement.
