When I first joined B/R as contributor last May, my first article was about the May 1 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley.
In my first article entitled "Questions on Mosley's Second Round Assault on Mayweather, Jr," I dealt with the reasons why Shane Mosley was not able to sustain his attack on Mayweather when it was so clear that the undefeated boxer lost his senses after being hit hard by Mosley in the second round:
"Boxing analysts are saying Mosley could have finished Mayweather in the second round of their fight. It was evident that Mayweather was hurt real bad in the round that 'just a little more effort' could have ended the bout in favor of Mosley via KO.
But the real question is why did Mosley 'held on'? It was quite clear from any angle that Mosley had his punching power and senses working for him in that round and even an amateur boxer would tell you it was a won fight in favor of Mosley".
I thought it was appropriate to revisit the Mosley-Mayweather fight after some B/R writers and commenter shifted their discussion on the second round assault that almost floored the undefeated boxer.
Niel de la Cruz, a very active commenter in our boxing community, said in one of his comments:
"I felt that it was fixed. If you'll watch the fight again, Mosley looked worried after hitting Floyd that almost knocked the latter down (it's like he realized that he was not following orders). After that shot, Mosley changed- from a fast strong fisted guy to slow, out-of-focused boxer. Mosley's foot work & defense changed after just two rounds.
"It's stupid to assume that Floyd's change of strategy made all the difference from 3rd to last round since one must focus also on Mosley's negative performance transition that gave Floyd a walk in the cloud 3rd to 12 round".
In the first round, Mayweather failed to land a single power punch or a combination of punches that could have weakened Mosley and justified his failure to finish Mayweather in that round.
In the second, Mayweather was clearly out of his senses.
Mosley, however, was fresh and very dangerous in the first and second rounds.
Niel continues his theory:
"My conspiracy theory: It's a fact that Floyd and Mosley were acquaintances, as they played basketball together. Floyd was accused of ducking Mosley and cherry picking his fights. On the other hand, Mosley was desperate for a fight (almost 2 years that he was not getting any payday). And Floyd was desperate to prove something.
"The one year vacation of Floyd (which he had time playing basketball with Mosley) premeditated Floyd's comeback fights (Marquez taking up to welterweight as warm up fight & a fixed fight with Mosley)."
Other commenters have sided with Niel's explanation while some members of the community disagreed.
Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, when asked about Mosley's devastating second-round attack, didn't understand the boxer's change in attack.
“I saw that, I did,” Pacquiao said. “If I can hit Mayweather like that, I will finish him off. I would continue the attack in a way that Mosley did not. I will attack until Mayweather is gone.”
Niel offers a test for his theory:
"We know what Mosley did to Margarito. He never got tired. One possible gauge will be Mosley's fight with Mora. I'm sure you'll see a non-stop action packed fight that Mosley is known for. Very different to his fight with Floyd."
So, was the fight fixed?
Niel's theory shows it may have been.

i think there's a decent chance it was fixed. if you follow the sequence of events from when floyd came back from his first "vacation" it looks suspiciously like a money grab and nothing more.
floyd takes an easy fight against marquez. a slap in the face to all boxing fans and about 20 million dollars for a guaranteed win. why fight marquez? out of all the fighters in the world marquez? well he is with golden boy, he is a small lightweight and he has no chance of winning so maybe thats why.
then he fights mosley. in the actual fight mosley fought floyd on even terms till he landed those bombs. then mosley who is a great finisher and never gases suddenly backs off and throws nothing but arm punches looking totally gassed. where were the huge power shots that destroyed mayorga in the 12th? where were the huge power shots that destroyed margarito in the 8th? it's hard to believe mosley gassed out in the second round of this fight and don't tell me floyd's defense was too good cause when he was on queer street he was an open book for a couple power shots around his guard but mosley suddenly started throwing arm punches and holding. in the rest of the fight mosley looks like he's not even trying to win and totally telegraphs his punches just to make sure he doesn't accidentally catch mayweather again.
now floyd refuses to fight pacquiao even though it's "easy work" and his biggest payday ever? i'm sure he's looking for another patsy opponent to make him millions more for an easy nights work. maybe then he will come back from "vacation"
let's also remember golden boy has a history of suspect fights. hopkins-delahoya that just did not look like a knockout punch to me and it never will. delahoya-mayweather if this wasn't a fixed fight i don't know what is. 2 guys lightly sparring each other and trying to make it seem like the fight was close. even the split decision left people saying delahoya still had it. we found out he didn't when steve forbes and pacquiao pummeled him.
Now that's just pactardtic..
We heared a lot of excuses to discredit mayweather , but the "the fight was fixed" excuse is one of the lamest and silliest. mosley didn't gas out , watch the fight again and see that he was still bouncing on his toes till the last round . mosley also after he hit floyd with the two hard puches he pressed him and tried to finish him off, that won't happen if the fight was fixed .
The only support this thread is getting r from obvious Pactards. No, if u watch the freakin fight, u can see Floyd's guard is what kept Mosley from being able to finish him. Mosley was clearly trying to win up until round 8 when he started gassing out. Simply put, Mayweather is way too skilled, Mosley is unfortunately too one dimensional, like Pacquiao. Why don't u watch Mosley/Wright and ask urself if it was fixed.
BTW, the Clottey/Pacquiao fight was a disgrace, and if either fight was fixed, that one by far. Clottey's Terms: Don't try to win. Pacquiao's Terms: Don't knock him out. Fair deal?
That author is extremely biased and anti-floyd mayweather
Fighters survive rounds hurt and come back soon as. Hasnt anybody watched a Prime Trinidad fight. Guy gets hurt one round, comes back and dismantles whoever
Roids, plaster .. etc is just bull

At first i thought mosley was just gassed out after round 2 that's why he stop throwing his punches but after I watched this fight again and focused in round 2 yeah it was strange that after mosley hit floyd and almost knock him down u could see shane suddenly get scared, yeah u r right that it seems like this fight is a fix and shane knocking out floyd would have **** up their plan. Maybe mosley doesn't want to throw those punches anymore because he knew that he could knock out floyd and the fight with pac will be ruined.
I agree with the ts that this fight is a fix for a set up with a bigger fight against pac, but GBP plan was still **** up because floyd will not step in the ring with pac. :lol1:
Yes the fight was fixed just like all of Mayweathers fights. In fact thats why he is still undefeated smh.
For the people that say that the fight was fixed because Shane cheated by using PEDs in the past. All that proves is that Shane would do anything to WIN not Lose and actually hurts your dumb logic of him throwing the fight because he has proven in the past that he is willing to go above and beyond and do anything to win a fight not lose one lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was fixed. How the hell Mosley did not finish Floyd when he was able to go all out on Marg is what really make people question this fight. But then again that was two years prior to the fight with Floyd. It is possible that Mosley could've easily have gone downhill since then, not to mention that he was 39yrs old. But i'll give Floyd the benefit of the doubt, which is shocking for me to say, but i just don't think that Floyd would stoop that low. Ellerbe on the other hand, Floyd's secret lover, would stoop that low for Floyd, figuratively and literally.
First Off Shane Is One Of My Alltime Favs.Someone Said He Would Be To Proud To Throw A Fight.. He Was'nt To Proud To Roid It Up.. That's Like Saying A Rapist Is To Proud To Beat His Wife.. Come On Now.. Name Me 1 Fight In The Last 20 Years Where A Fighter Of Mosleys Level Gassed In 2 Rounds And After He Had His Opp In La La Land.. Just Shut Down And Stop Punching... NEVER Has He Ever Gas Out Like That... May Never Hit Him Like That..To Make Him Not Want To Throw.. He Walk Through Hell With No Boots Vs Winkey And Vernon..Twice But Was Scared To Mix It Up The Pillow Punching I Can't KO A Lightweight Mayweather... Get REAL.. It's About Money..A In House Fight For 80 Million GBP Knowing The Winner Will Be May Vs A Split 100 million (GBP)(Top Rank) PacMonster Vs Mosley Or Take The 80 mIllion And Make Sure The 250 Million Happends With A Fix...A 250 Million Fight May Vs PacMonster... What Would You Do?
What complete and utter bullsh!t.
Mosley wasn't gassed, he became hesitant because of Floyd's fast hands and quick, accurate counters.
When he did take the risk to throw after the 2nd, he'd hit air and/or gloves and get hit with a counter shot. Let alone the fact that he's 38 and had been on a 15 month layoff. Long layoffs are notoriously bad for old fighters as it fukcs with their timing and stamina.
Go to your local boxing gym and face a good counter puncher. You might see what you do when you're constantly getting or threatened with getting hit with a counter. Remember that Mosley is a man and punches from a quick "pillow puncher" pressing the fight might not be all that appetizing.

Good question. But in defense of the conspiracy here it can be claimed that Mayweather , or whatever the party that fixed the fight has influence on Mosley's future options in fight possibilities .
So not only was the fight fixed, but Mosely was strong armed? The chances of that happening and nobody finding out about it are incredibly low.
This is weak, there is ZERO chance this was a set up, Floyd was just a far better fighter on the night i know its hard to except coz the guys such a dick but he is the best fighter in the game. I know he was buzzed for real but i dont think he was that hurt by the right hand and he delt with it like a true champ
NO FIX

As an avid hater of Mayweather I'll say with no disrespect, not a chance. Shane was simply beaten by the better fighter. I can't stand Floyd, but he's great at his craft. Its a shame he won't fight everyone and simply chooses to fight for the biggest purse. Dude could cement himself as an all time great.
This is my post in another thread on the same subject:
Except for a rare Biggs type dive, I seriously doubt that fighters are in on fixes... seriously.
This isn't WWE, where wrestlers can choreograph a match, where they will take turns facilitating one another moves, and not get hurt.
This is boxing, where fighters train for most of their lives to get where they're at. Jaws, hands, ribs are bruised and broken on the regular. Brains are rattled with every clean punch to the head and brain cells dissipate. Where fighters are left pissing blood for days and weeks afterward from any given body shot. Where any given punch can hurt you, knock the senses out of you, or out cold.
Where, at times, they leave a piece of themselves in the ring in hopes to have come away with a win. Boxing is where manhood can be proven, developed, or taken. The reason why Joe Frazier, Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor are slurring their words. The reason why Freddie Roach and Muhammad Ali suffer from pugilistic dementia. Where Duk Koo Kim, Benny Paret, Levander Johnson, Lynn James, Ulrich Regis, Pedro Alcazar, Johnny Owen, Bobby Tomasello, and a host of others had their lives taken.
So you excuse me... excuse me if I don't believe your bullsh!t assumptions about fixes being in.
not if it's mayweather doing the punching. mosley was prepared to take his powerless pillow punches for a few million dollars and a guarantee to fight the great sergio mora in his next fight.
