The way he said that was as if he didnt give a **** about mid way through the fight because he has a rematch clause.
What kind of fighter thinks like that? Did anyone else catch that?
I fancied Chad and I haven't seen the fight yet but I'd fancy Chad to win the re-match. I think it was just Chad trying to downplay the loss and to me that's refreshing because too many fighters are scared to lose their 0, so it shows he's not too bothered. He's a fighter.
I think he was just trying to downplay the loss...
Some people do make too big a deal of losing though...most fighters have losses...
i agree, even the greatest basketball team of all time (arguably)
lost 13 times in 1995-1996 season (including playoffs)
I was very disappointed in Dawson man. There were so many opportunities for him to open up, but as I've said for quite a while now...he doesn't push the envelope to close a fight and Pascal gave him plenty of chances to end it.
Just weird...
The only thing I don't like, is that Pascal is not getting any credit at all from many while saying Dawson did not do this and that.
Dawson had an opponent in the ring who gave lots of movement, angles, was quick, wild and unpredictable. Dawson is a very controlled fighter and likes it that way. he loves a steady pace that he is controlling. Pascal is far from controlled, but showed enough to keep him honest and mixed in with enough constant motion and smarts to get away with it.
Neither fighter looked great. Dawson looked unsure compared to previous fights. Pascal gassed out, maybe from either being too hyper in his showcase fight, or just plain rusty. Who knows. Pascal did do enough though. Not bad for a guy everyone called a scared bum no more than two years ago.
That's because Pascal wasn't good at all. A lot of those charge forward flurries were awkward and didn't land much. He only won most the rounds he won because of what Dawson didn't do, not what Pascal did do. Pascal wasn't giving angles and movement, he was running around looking more scared than Dawson.
Pascal should get what credit winning gets him, but that's not a ton. Kind of like Hopkins-Jones 2, where yeah Hopkins won but he sure as hell didn't do anything special to earn it.

Point taken. Pascal did win the bout. In fact, I won a million points because of it :).
I guess I don't feel that satisfied because of the stoppage. It wasn't conclusive, so they need to have a rematch.
He has a good record, fighters lose all the time and come back from it stronger,Dawson still has a lot of options do not count him out just yet .Yes undefeated until moments ago. But suspicions of "safety first" and "he does not have the meaness needed" have been around for some time. And there's his reputation that he was limiting himself to the seniors circuit, i.e., Tarver was just a couple of months short of 40 in their first fight and Glen Johnson was a few months past 39 in their first date. Erik Harding has not fought since his meeting with Dawson. He was 34 at the time.
Adamek, was just 30 years old or so-- the youngest Dawson faced in the past 4 years-- and against him, Dawson was credited with a knockdown that was shown in a replay on Showtime as Adamek tripping on Dawson's foot. Adamek floored Dawson with a straight.
Dawson's last opponent who was about his age at the time of the fight was Jamie Hearn, back in '06.
Anyway, he does have a good record, as records go, but then...
And, oh, yes, I am not counting him out. In his loss today, he showed he has what it takes, physically. But, he may have some attitude issues to resolve.

i just got done watching the fight (i tivo'd it). dawson sounded pretty sore in that post-fight interview and i just read on the main page here that shaw claimed the butt was intentional. also, when merchant asked about his shoulder, he sounded like a total dick with his response. i clearly heard him say in between one of the rounds something about it bothering him. it was maybe 2 rounds before lampley mentioned it. overall, i thought this was the most entertaining dawson fight i've seen since the adamek bout. i was giving him the benefit of the doubt not trying to finish off pascal because of the shoulder thing but if there was no problem with it like he claims, then theres no excuse for holding back. so close to becoming a fan, but the post-fight remarks killed it.
one of the things that really impressed me about pascal early on was his ability to keep his lead foot on the outside of dawson's. i thought he fought a great fight for the first 7 rounds.
ps: slightly bothered by the words "condom depot" on the back of dawson's trunks

He seem to just down play his loss but he does seem to be missing the killer instinct
Just seconds before that clash of heads, Dawson landed an uppercut, which he must have felt in his fist as one that had vicious impact and it clearly did as he had Pascal on queer street. What did he do? He stepped back after landing that shot, then, seeing what was happening to Pascal, he rushed back.
Watching the fight, one thought Dawson will finish the whole thing with combinations.Carpe diem or something like it! Just let his hands fly.
He did not. He seemed to take the posture of one who's stalking his prey. One does not stalk one's prey when the prey is ready for the taking. One pounces.
And, in some of the earlier rounds, there were sequences when he was hitting Pascal with combinations while Jean went on the defensive. But each time Dawson just stopped.
I am guessing all these have their roots on "safety first". It may also have much to do with that which is at the root of the rematch statement, and vice versa.
Or, maybe Bad Chad is not bad enough, or, not really bad at all.

he was not very gracious in defeat guess he bought into his own hype. And mentioning the rematch clause and "constant butting and holding" was pointless.
i was a Dawson fan before this fight. I just cant see my self rooting for him again after his post fight comment about having a rematch. As a fighter having a rematch clause should mean nothing. This guys heart is lacking big time....
Why do you talk about yourself that way? I guess you know your own kind. You like fighters who fight scared, afraid of taking punishment in a fight. You hate fighters who take risks.
Don't try to play the lame game buddy.
It won't work.
There were questions about Dawson's chin before. He was knockdown by Miller, Adamek, and Harding before. Pascal hurt him a few times, and maybe that is why he was afraid to counter more often.
I am glad there is a rematch clause, but Pascal may fight Bute next, he can have an alt fight before exercising that clause. If bute beats pascal, than that takes that scenario away.
