Does a fighter have to be with Top Rank, Golden boy or Don king to make huge paydays?? And i'm talking about a very skilled, exciting fighter but with a smaller promotional company.
What's any different if they are signed with Lou Dibella or Gary shaw or someone even smaller??? Does that effect how much money they get in fights, even though they're a great, talented fighter??
Big bucks I mean above a million if not multi millons.... So how about a fighter like Andre Berto.. He's talented and quite popular..He is signed with lou dibella..Would he be making more if he was signed with top rank or golden boy? would he be getting bigger, better fights????
Same question applies to guys like Tim Bradley(gary shaw) and Paul williams (Goosen)
No, Berto wouldn't be paid more if he were with GBP instead of DiBella, he has all the connections he needs with Al Haymon as his adviser. He's the reason why he's been on the network at least 10 times, even though most of his opposition has been ESPN2/Shobox level. The list of opponents Berto's fought for more than likely at least 6 digits and more is fukcing terrible.
Same deal with Paul Williams who has the same adviser. Matter of fact, most of the fighters that you see consistently on HBO that aren't GBP fighters are "advised" by Haymon (Angulo, Arreola, Jacobs, Berto, Williams, Mayweather). He's the reason Angulo came right back onto HBO after his loss, while Cintron had to just wait it out.
The fighters that are already making 1+ million consistently would not be making more.
Now, some of the other fighters that aren't making more than a million consistently would probably be making more with GBP or Al Haymon because they have strong relationships with the biggest payer in the business (HBO).
Alexander, Bradley, etc. would have been paid more if they were with GBP and Haymon because they would most likely have been featured consistently on HBO.
Great Thread I have often wondered this question and I do not know the answer. I always think of fighters to like Chad Dawson (although he lost tonight), Tavoris Cloud, and Timothy Bradley although they are extremely good and very high in the rankings they seem to have no fan base and have a really hard time selling tickets like Dawson vs. Tarver was horrendous at the gate and Bradley only gets about 2,000 people at his fights.
I guess that's what it is...Skill and talent dont mean sheit...It's who you're signed under, who they know and their connections.. Although most talented fighters do get signed with big companies, some don't and we never get to see them fully explode on the scene... While a bum fighter gets big fights/big bank because he has major promotion..
Roy Jones didn't fall down that path though..Gotta respect the legend...

What's big bucks to you?
If it's over a million there's Gary Shaw, Goossen Tutor, DiBella, K2, Sauerland, Universum, Mayweather Promotions, all have at least 1 fighter that consistently makes more than a million dollars. The first 5 (maybe 6) have at least 2 right now.

It's not just about money but connections too, Some promoters have all the money needed to bring up a young fighter but they dont have the connection or they know how to bribe their way into getting their fighter ranked, Frank warren is a great example of a promoter who has a lot of influence on boxing organisations, He made people like Hatton get ranked when they didnt deserve it. Got someone like Khan a shot at Barrera when he didnt deserve it etc
Good answer..........
