• Al Haymon is so reviled by some in the boxing industry that there are people -- powerful people -- I hear from almost on a daily basis who are openly rooting for King to sign Mayweather. Dan Rafael
Berto didn't budge on his 50-50 demand to fight Mosley, which effectively nixed that fight.
Williams was offered a 50-50 split to fight Martinez, but is asking for more than a 50-50 split and hasn't budged, which is why it hasn't already been made.
And Mayweather...:blackeye:
Oh... and the other parts of the scourge are the corrupt sanctioning organizations, Bob Arum, Don King, State Commissions, and a few of the managers, trainers, and fighters themselves.
Man we gonna agree to disagree. IMO Dan don't know sh!t and has no clout in boxing.
As far as ESPN goes they are a entertainment channel they don't care if what they put out is accurate. They are a prime example of having the most money gets more people to buy into your bullsh!t. ESPN has been gone down in the quality and accuracy of the tv channel and the website. ESPN now is the sports version of a tabloid magazine.
I don't know that Dan Rafael is particularly well-connected. For someone who has been covering the sport as long as he has, when has be ever broken an exclusive? When has he ever gotten an interview or breaking news that no one else got?
He has been covering the pacquiao-mayweather negotiations for a year, and he has given us no news.
Whenever I see DR, he is stiing in the media pool just like everybody else. When you are sitting next to Elie Seckbach and have to wait your turn to ask a question, I don't know how much clout you have.
I don't want to argue with you either man, didn't mean to come off like that :fing02:.
I meant to say that from what I've heard about him, he seems more of the managing adviser, than what you'd expect a typical advising role would entail. And it's probably due to the same reason you stated.
Yes, he's the lead boxing writer for the "worldwide leader in sports". He is more than likely next to only yahoo's Kevin Iole as the most connected. I've read his chats, he's as obnoxious as they get, but he is connected in boxing.
His rolodex probably has most big names in the sport, people that barely talk to boxing writers probably talk to him, and he has said on numerous occasions that he usually waits for confirmation from a primary source before breaking a story, instead of possibly jumping the gun, even if that makes him late on it.

Quelogue,
I do not mean to argue with you. I was only saying that the "manager" title means something very specific in boxing. You have to be licensed, and you have to register your managerial contract with NSAC.
I believe those disclosures are why AH shuns the 'manager' title.

Do you really believe that? If so why? That man doesn't know sh!t he steals info from other sites after they have been broken the story. Dan flat out lies and is a terrible writer

Touche :blackeye:
He's a managing adviser. He gets them the dates and negotiates purses, but I'm not sure if he picks the opponents or if that's left up to the promoter.
Dan Rafael, next to Kevin Iole, is the most well connected writer in boxing. Why would he just say people call him and want Mayweather to sign with Don King just to spite Haymon.
What does he gain? Haymon has a quote around that says he stay in the background.....

I feel bad for Showtime. They do the hard work in scouting fighters and making the best matchups. Then when the fighters become stars, they go to HBO.
It's the same thing with lesser MMA leagues and the UFC.
Who developed Tim Bradley? Devon Alexander? Chad dawson? etc
Which is why Showtime does...with a 1/4 of the budget

Is Al even a Manager?
Being a manager would mean providing certain information to NSAC and other Commissions. Al doesn't do that. He plays a non-managerial advisor role

nobody knows anything about al haymon.
all this is hear-say

people call out Haymon because he is associated with Mayweather, most people don't even know what Haymon looks like or WTF he does
Boxing has more problems then just Haymon, right now Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank trying to keep everything In House is the BIGGER ISSUE in boxing right now
Haymon is a Manager/Advisor for those fighters, he doesn't setup the fights, that is what Goossen does for Williams, DiBella does for Berto and GBP was doing for Mayweather
when GBP and Top Rank stop trying to keep everything In House then that is when we will get the matches we want to see, both Promotions are protecting fighters, especially the fighters they feel they can make the most money off of

Forgot about HBO. I have no experience managing a non-personal budget or matchmaking, let alone for a premium cable company, but if I got their budget, I would destroy their matches.

I don't know why they have to keep protecting Berto and paying him outrageous purses for fighting guys like Kotelnik and Quintana. I don't think Haymon is good for boxing. But he has thrown fighters to the wolves before like Arreola, Taylor, and Williams. It baffles me why Berto gets preferential treatment though.
Yeah, Berto was gift-wrapped a title and was on HBO pretty much from the get. Not cool. Same with Arreola although he at least did more.
Yeah man, I put up a list the other day of the Berto fights that I'd seen on HBO and it was embarrassing for HBO.
They wasted money on such gems as Berto vs. Figueroa (Who?), Norberto Bravo (from the Contender), Trabant (Who?), David Estrada, Rodriguez (Who?), and Forbes...
Really?!?!?! Everyone knew ahead of time that these fights were mismatches. They are Shobox/FNF level fights. I'm not even mentioning the Urango fight because at least he had a title.
HBO has to realize that it's not their fukcing job to coddle prospects, it's their handlers. You can't make a superstar. When I watch HBO, I don't want to see someone in the developmental stage on HBO, until they're ready to fight another high level prospect on the level of Peterson-Rios.
Arreola didn't get nearly as coddled, he's straight with me, but let's be honest. After Juan Diaz lost to Nate Campbell, he had to fight Katsidis to get back on HBO. After Arreola lost to Vitali, he got to fight Brian Minto...
I think that might be part of the problem, but the preferential treatment his fighters get from HBO (especially Berto) sucks for everyone else, including the fans, other fighters, managers, and HBO it self.

Well we all know that isn't happening...lol
And idk if Luis can still make 147...Berto might as well fight Collazo even at 154 instead of doing nothing right now...
You never know man. Alexander might just have that set on him. Win or lose against Bradley, I wouldn't be surprised if he does it to get the haters off his back.
Collazo doesn't want to take any big fights until he gets a tuneup. He declined a fight against Dzinzurik because of it. I want to see Berto-Jones, MJ is a huge welterweight and the fight would be the most intriguing involving Berto sans Mosley.
Weight drainage shows up in the later rounds especially when you're being pushed around, so I'm inclined to think it would definitely be a closer fight. Berto not rematching Collazo would be as bad as Alexander not rematching Kotelnik.

I still think he's a solid fighter...I'd pick Berto to beat him at 154 as well...he was outboxing Berto at times but Berto imposed his will on him eventually...

Nah, it wasn't the same Quintana

Al Haymon gets a bad rap. Yeah, he's part of the scourge but for some reason, not talking to the press means you're made out worse than you actually are. He's done some good things, such as trying to get USADA on board and working with Berto in Haiti.
How exactly has he done this?
