majority of the posts im read in is chavez jr gets killed this cotto KO's him out cold that, but IMO this will be a close fight and ima go with my gut and say Jr will tko Cotto late, plus Im sure roach will give Jr some good tips and will train well. My breakdown is Cotto starts strong as usual winning majority of the first half of the fight, (JR has a great chin he wont be stopped imo). Midway Cotto gasses like ussual and chavez takes over and goes to the body and head to the TKO, maybe a desision which i also see Chavez winning if it takes place in Texas. This is my view feel free to express yours(No TROLLING OR FLAMING). Poll commin up
The people at Top Rank arent dumb. Chavez is a money maker and Cotto is there to be taken. Yuri Foreman was able to ROCK Cotto a couple times, you put a 6'0 middleweight in front of him and he is going to have problems no way around it. Maybe Cotto can get him to the body, but i see Chavez walking through him. Ariza conditioning Chavez and Roach gameplanning, itll be competitive but i got JR.
I got Cotto winning a UD. But I agree this is no freebie for Cotto. He's small for 154 and Chavez can fight. His resume is nothing special, but he's shown that he has some skills. I'd consider it an upset if Chavez beat him, but I'm not expecting Cotto to blitz him by any means.
JR. has looked like **** against low level fighters. He beats a guy who was a C level fighter and all the sudden he beats Cotto?!? Because he is tall? Because of Freddie? I just dont see it. Cotto beats him up and stops him around 8.
JCC Jr. doesn't hit that hard it seems, and he hasn't shown the chin of Margarito against top fighters. John Duddy is a journeyman. Cotto might end up being way too skilled for him.
cotto get stagerd in every single fight cotto has a glass chin torres, corley, judah, clottey, pacquiao, foreman, some i forget have all got cotto with shots he didnt see and cotto wobble.cotto's strong talented skilled but over the years his chin has been exposed
you guys forget that jr will spar with pacquiao.manny is a fighter that knew how to make cotto pay for his habits foreman simply was going to run the entire fight he got cotto with a good **** in the 4th that stagerd cotto a fighter is 8 ko's went back to running instead of keep pounding cotto Jr will jab and move for 3,4 rounds then he will FIGHT he mixes it up body and upstairs and he has a stiff jab
Wrong game-plan, MArgie only came forward, took everything Cotto dish out and swong back
It's the lesser of 2 evils IMO, I mean Cotto likes guys who move away from him. That allows him to gain momentum, plant his feet and gain leverage on his shots. Chavez can't outbox Cotto, he won't turn into a guy who moves side to side and in and out like Pacquiao, the only way he knows how to fight basically, is to move forward. And that's his only chance of winning IMO, because he will be the bigger guy.
Cotto CHOPS HIM DOWN with Body Shots
Chavez doesn't apply enough pressure, I don't see him hurting Cotto at all, Cotto won't have to worry about his speed, Chavez really don't have much defense, Duddy was catching him with some good shots, what exactly is Chavez better at...He is Younger? that is all!
I got Cotto breaking him down mentally and physical
IMO, the only chance Chavez has is to impose his size and try to wear Cotto down similar to how Margarito did, technique wise I don't see a way he can beat Cotto, whatever he does Cotto does much, much better. The kind of improvements he needs doesn't happen in 1 fight. If it happens I think Cotto stops him with a body shot in about 6 or 7 rounds.

I'm not really surprised at the train of thought that Cotto could gas, or doesn't have 154 power that will affect Chavez. What gets me is how many people think Chavez is actually a good fighter his best win is over John Duddy and it wasn't even that impressive, he got just as busted up as Duddy did. The only advantage Chavez has is height, I'm talking clear cut the other stuff... You can't take his KO power seriously because he's fought such horrid competition his entire life so thats in question. We know Cotto will be as fast as him if not faster, and even IF Cotto was slower than him Chavez is nowhere near as fast as Mosley, Judah, Paulie, or Manny.
The biggest problem for Chavez though is that Cotto IS NOT a slugger as so many people think he is. He likes to plan out his attacks and he does it even better with Steward in his corner. He doesn't just apply pressure he jabs at you, and rushes in to get you in the corner. Watch the 5th round of the Cotto/Foreman fight, there is a combination that Cotto lands and finishes with a nice uppercut. He feinted and almost expected Foreman to counter and it worked to perfection, he timed his jab as to have Foreman jump into the punch for more damage. Chavez is simply way too inexperienced for this fight, he didn't even have an amatuer career, and brains beats brawn in boxing all day. Pavlik/Hopkins, Cotto/Foreman, Pacquaio/Diaz these are just a few examples, the fact is that I simply can't see a guy with 50 pro fights against complete bums, beats a guy with WORLD CLASS competition for years and likely well over 400 professional and amateur rounds.

lol, Trinidad vs Vargas was one of the most exciting, high level 154lb matchups in a long time. I dont remember a 154lb fight as good as that since then.
I will be THRILLED if Jr. vs Cotto ends up even close to as good as Vargas-Trinidad.
I dont get why people dislike this fight. Both of them have exciting styles, and Jr has shown improvement recently and may grow even more before the Cotto fight.
worse case scenario: Cotto will KO Jr. Who doesnt like seeing good KOs?
Just felt I had to reinforce what you stated there. Truly one of the most exciting fights in boxing. It has so many things that make it interesting:
Both fighters were young.
Both fighters were champions.
Both fighters were undefeated.
Both fighters had terrifying power.
Both fighters despised one another.
One fighter was Puerto Rican, another was Mexican. Ongoing rivalry...
Six knockdowns in the fight
Both fighters hit the canvas.
Both fighters hit low. Both fighters were deducted points.
Tremendous give and take action.
Dramatic KO ending.
That...fight...has...it...all.
Nah i see cotto outboxing and maybe even stopping Jr. Chavez jr. is not that level yet and maybe never will. Cotto's experience and skills will dominate him. I just dont see anything in jr. that will trouble cotto. Nothing. But u have to give him credit for stepping up to an elite.
