my question is this, if you trained up to fight like the old ways rocky marciano style, do you think it would be an advantage, seeing as everyone trys to fight either standard style eg cotto, or philly styles boxers eg mayweather.
pros, i think the old style fighter can generate more power, especially from the right hand since its cocked back more and comes from lower position.
the use of switching stance becomes eaiser (walking oppents down litterally) and allows for more angles
cons, now days fighters have neater organised footwork, making them hard to hit, and exellent jabs.
the general speed advantage of modern fighters, moving more economically, orthough they may lack power they do land quicker and more accuratly.
You're basing all old styles off of 2 unorthodox boxers ?.
ok, im wrong to class them as old styles, when i should reguard them as simply a seperate style. but you know what i mean, they both share the tendency to throw hard looping punches, rather than short sharpe ones, and seem more free to move with either foot and throw with power from either hand as opposed to fighting like a robot.
There was no set style in the "old days" of boxing as there isn't now. Marciano was certainly not seen as the traditional boxer of the 1950's, in fact he was as unorthodox as they come.
