For the most the dude's fought lots of journyman or sub par fighters. Natural SFW Jose Miguel Cotto stunned him and nearly knocked him out in 1.
His record is pretty padded. As soon as he fights a top rated opponent he will get beat, actually I fancy Baldomir to exploit him.
If Cotto would've not gassed like he always does, he would've ended it in that first round. But he took the dive. That's why GBP signed him after that fight(cotto) who signs a fighter after losing a fight? Unless Cotto was demoted to stepping stone by GBP. If Cotto would've put the pressure that Matgwa put on Juanma and landed as many Shots. Canelito wouldn't even be a topic in this forum.
I'm gonna' wait a little bit longer to jump on the Canelo train.
KOing a 39yo Baldomir (even though I thought he gave a pretty good performance, but was never really elite), while impressive, doesn't bring him all the way from prospect to upper tier contender in one move.
For one thing, he got hit too much and I'm wondering how fast he would look against another solid-propect, 20-something.
yeah but wasnt it against a big puncher?
if I am not mistaken it was twice
once by Valenzuela on a nice right hand

and technically once by Campenella (could have been twice but ruled a push)

neither guy I would say were big punchers per se
Solid PROSPECT...hes still a prospect people, you guys are talking as if he has a belt or about to fight for one, chill. Hes a YOUNG prospect, do yall give every prospect in the world this kind of heat?
I agree he is a solid prospect and no we dont give every prospect that kind of heat cuz every prospect doesnt come with his kind of hype.
yea...if you say so
there's a difference between not being impressed and making a thread saying someone is overrated and nothing special
You have a point there. Im just saying that not everyone that questions the hype around this kid is a hater.
the video interview I did with him for here he even admitted he is not quite ready for the big time and that he will take his time
I hope he goes through with the plan but money talks
I hope he doesnt get ruined like vargas did
correct me if I am wrong as well but wasn't De La Hoya put on his ass a few times early on his career by smaller guys?
his chin turned out to be just fine

So? Pac was rocked by Larios who was also moving two divisions up from 122 to 130....Pac is now a welterweight and his chin seems fine to me.

dude, the title says 'he's overrated and nothing special'...that's not hating? lol
Could just be his opinion of the guy maybe he just isnt impressed :dunno:
Thats fine I still think he was just stunned, **** happens when you get hit by a clean punch. He handled the adversity well he stayed calm and got himself out of trouble. People with glass chins can't think that way when they are stunned.
that I can totally agree with
I think he is being hyped up too much right now
only time will tell
but its at least a fresh face in the game
The only way we are going to find out is to wait and see how Alvarez does against punchers that are his size.
Thats fine but you can say that about almost any prospect so Im not sweating it.
Ill give you the out on his feet
i can admit when I am wrong and exagerrate a bit
but lets look at your post
you said he recovered in 3 seconds
im sorry man but he didnt even recover by the end of the round

Sure but can you also see why I think people are jumping to conclusions?

Like I said overexagerrating to make a non existent point!!!
Out on his feet LOL wow talk about blowing things wayyyyyyyyy out of proportion LOl!!
I don't think you even watched the fight in fact i think you read this somewhere and are just regurgitating it. LOL the HBO broadcasters didn't even make that big of a deal of it and they were calling the fuking fight lol!!!

Yeah i can see the difference in those 2 situations i was using that as an example for the point that i was making. Do you understand the point i made in my last post?
the only point i got from you was you think Saul Alvarez might have a glass chin lol
