He's coming off a HORRIBLEY one-sided loss to an old Vernon Forrest, and a win over an absolute nobody.
Not to mention the fact that he never was anybody, and his only victory of ANY note was over a faded Vernon Forrest who basically proved their first fight was a fluke when he beat Mora senseless in the rematch.
And ON TOP of all this, Mora can't sell for SHIT. He isnt popular at all. And the people who DO kno he exists seem to strongly dislike him.
Meanwhile Mosley was THE weltherweight champ less then 4 months ago, and is coming of a loss against one of the best fighters of this era in a fight that he had a lot of success in early.
----
Im going to ASSUME they picked Mora cause he has some Spanish roots somewhere and its on Mexican Independence day and whatever, and they feel this will help sell tickets for a fight thats tough to sell...
... But what about a fight against Angulo (a REAL mexican) for a non-title fight at 154.
That fight just makes so much sense to me at this point. Not as much sense as Cotto-Angulo, but still. Mosley-Angulo is a CLASSIC crossroads match and it would be a great war considering both guys styles and Mosley's age.
----
I just dont get boxing. When they arent making fights for the fans, they are making the for the money. And when they arent making fights for the money, they STILL aren't making them for the fans??? Just non-sensical really
I believe the last GBP PPV was Marquez vs Casamayor wasn't it? Which was 2008. GBP doesn't do this often. It's weird they put put a shit match up on PPV.
I'm glad HBO rejected so that people see it's not a hate on Top Rank type of thing. HBO just doesn't like shit cards. Which Top Rank always puts together.
Mora is a GBP fighter. They're pulling an Arum and doing in house fights but since HBO rejected it, they're making it an independent GBP PPV. Top Rank does this all the time.

You sound like a fat jackass.
You must be one of those fat ass loudmouth boxing fans because you sound very ignorant.

You Mora haters are morons, Mora had a way worse camp and more weight problems than forrest in the rematch.....so its hilarious how you take all the credit away from sergio for the first victory, and then act like he didnt come in 30 pounds overweight for a 5 week camp and lost 2 pounds in 2 hours the day before the fight.......
mora has sold 12000 at staples, mosley couldnt sell 7000 at the home depot center....mora is a former champ, a cali mexican-american fighter(spanish blood somewhere?youre a fuc.king moron...) and is with golden boy, its obvious how he got this fight.
not to mention, angulo is with shaw and lost the one time he fought a good fighter...hell, sergio has schooled him in sparring plenty of times...
You make Vernon sound like he sucked or soemthing. That dhude mighta been old but he was still a beast. Remember he also beat him the first time.
Sergio Mora is no joke son
lol, actually he is a huge joke. New to boxing, are ya?

Tune-ups are kool,but shouldn't be on ppv!!:dunno:
Yeah, it is ridiculous that they have put this fight on PPV. Just mental.
It won't sell well I don't think.
Exactly, why put this trash on PPV? It's not trash as in worthless but for PPV standards, it is a ripoff and won't sell anything. Half of the non-avid boxing fans don't even know who Mora is in the first place. Mosley and Berto is maybe worth PPV but definitely not this one.
Truth is, Golden Boy wants a Mexican ticket seller more than anything. Always has, and always will.
Ortiz was suppose to be it, but the Terminator Maidana changed that. Alvarez is in position to take over that position, but IMO right now isn't near ready. GBP tried to control things so much for Ortiz they signed Nate and Harris just to fight him.
And Mora just flat out looks like they are giving him Mosley and preying Mora will gain Mexican Fame from a win.
That's pretty much how I've always seen it.
I will just hang out with my Mexican friends that night and bring them some beer, I think that will be a fair trade.
I know I am certainly not trying to pay full retail or taking to risk of throwing a party (when I know there will be atleast two I can attend).
Yeah, that's always how it ends up anyway :lol1:.

Because Mora is the great Mexican hero that could topple former WW king Mosley. Or so say its promo. Lolz.
That could make for a good card but would only help marginally. Victor Ortiz on HBO is one thing. On PPV is another. I'll be watching, of course. But I hear the market is gearing up for another tumble so I won't be paying.

The funny thing is that one of the fights people complained about most on HBO recently Ortiz-Campbell actually did one of the highest raitings of the year.
So if GBP is taking that into account and putting Ortiz on the card and put Canelo in (even against Baldomir which I kind of find appealing just because Baldomir is a hard man and if Canelo goes in there to take out Baldomir he could find himself in a much tougher fight than most envision).
This is on GBP though as promoters they are suppose to take some risks and this is a risk (even though I think they stand a very good chance to turn a profit jsut base don their costs), so I find promoters doing stuff like this as good (or atleast a necessary evil). Also GBP has been spoonfed a lot so it is nice to see them actually take a chance.

GBP will have an extremely hard time selling this one. They had a better shot with Jones-Calzaghe. At least that had a 24/7. These kind of fights compound the problem. Networks are taking losses on a lot of fights and trying to recoup by putting everything on PPV. They don't realize that in doing so they risk losing the very thing they need - the consumer.

Agreed.
Im surprised they would want to match him with someone so awkward, i mean look how he struggled to get to grips with Mayorga's punches, strange rhythm.
Yeah and Mora is tough whereas Shane isn't so powerful at 154. An upset is highly likely here. I'll be streaming.
Yea but it could be worse, I don't consider the fight overly meaningful but the winner is nicely positioned and with fairly low overhead (and for them hopefully a strong gate at Staples) I think they stand a decent chance of making money.
I just hope HD only cost 50 or 55 (pre rebate), I will take 10 dollars off and a fairly good card as acceptable but I can certainly understand any fan who wouldn't want to pony up for that fight.
I am interested to see how GBP promotes taht fight though and how that plays out, because GBP has proven they can sell fights to the public that are atlest somewhat in demand so I want to see if they can sell ice to Eskimos (which is what they need to do to really do well on this card).
