As i hinted in another thread, Tim Smith has already been making excuses for the loss of Jacobs. Jacobs put the name of his grandma in his trunks, as she died one week ago. Jacobs had to leave his trainning camp to pay his final respects at the hospital. Also Jacobs fought one day before the funeral, as the funeral is now being held today in NY, so Jacobs had to take the 5 hour flight back to NY.
Buster Douglas lost his mom before the Tyson fight, he when on to score the biggest upset in boxing history we he gave Tyson a TKO from TOkyo. Than Rodrigo Valdez gave Carlos Monzon a tough fight one week after his brother was murdered.
I feel bad for Jacobs, but i don;t know why the NY black writer Tim Smith is already becoming an apologist for Jacobs?
Different people react differently in the same sort of situation, it's just part of being human. What he does in the future will show us what kind of fighter he really is. If he recovers and does well, then I'd say this excuse is valid. If his career goes down the toilet, then it'll just have been an excuse.

if he bounces back with some good wins it could be true that he was affected mentally , only time will tell if he belonged at that level

It affects people in different ways, you just cant say becauce Busters mom died he kicked ass, and because Jacobs granma died he should have done the same. WTF... that is not fair, as i said it affects people in weird ways. Maybe he just didnt want to fight, or was not concentrating. I think know this sort of thing before a fight is dangerous.
I honestly don't know where the hell Jacob's mind was that night...he kept backing up and jabbing which was not affective at all...I mean Jacobs has faught a touch and rugged fight with Ishe Smith and he stood in the center of the ring and did his thing...He didn't seem like the same Danny Jacobs even in the first round which is a round he won he didn't seem the same...I think he looked past Pirog because Jacobs was looking soft and that's not the same Jacobs I'm used to seeing cuz I followed his career....
