There was a post a while back i forget by who but he explained basically the business of ppv's.
And this ppv is essentially the only way to get this fight on tv.
It's true. Even though the overall ratings would suck it's the only way it would be on tv and make money. If 50k people buy the PPV that's a lot more money than if 200k watched it on ESPN.
Fights that would have low ratings but the fighters demand large paychecks have to be on these type of PPV's.

Put it on FNF at least it serves it's purpose and gets some attention there.
FNF's budget is miniscule. If this PPV only sells 10k it will make more money than the largest FNF budget of the year.
I wish ESPN had a bigger budget in boxing (like they did 20 years ago). The fact is they probably won't for a long time (if ever)...
The other part of this fight is the date it's being fought. Completely stupid to have it competing with Juan Manuel Lopez vs Rafael Marquez. Of all the fights the rest of the year that's the one I'm looking forward to the most.
exactly who would pay to watch mora mosley when juanma marquez will be on showtime?

I COMPLETELY disagree. These types of events are made for PPV.
How does Mosley/Mora being on PPV negatively impact the boxing community...please explain.
Because nobody will see it. This fight's nothing special, I won't pay 50 bucks for it, and neither will the general public. It's bad business. I'm not a huge ufc fan but when I'm flipping around and see a fight I usually checkout the action and become familiar with the fighters and the product, making me more inclined to buy a ppv involving the participants. Mosley looked terrible against Mayweather, Mora's lost his popularity since the contender what do they have to offer? Put it on FNF at least it serves it's purpose and gets some attention there.
But Berto isn't an elite fighter yet. He's lucky to even get a fight like this. He should just take what he's offered. He had no problem with it prior to the Quintana fight, so what's different now? I hope he doesn't think KOing Quintana made him an elite boxer or something...
well, berto has the wbc world championship belt, has beaten two welterweight gatekeepers and says he is trying to get the big fights.
even those that still view mosley as an elite fighter should accept that his career is coming to an end and the best business move for hbo would be for berto to carry the card and beat him.
berto was ringside for that beating mayweather gave mosley. to watch that old rag get thrown around the ring and then earn more money than him to secure a championship fight for his belt must have inspired berto to raise his asking percentage.
People who buy this PPV should be shot on sight. Only making things worse for the sport by supporting greedy promoters. This should be nothing more than a FNF much less an HBO PPV...
this comes off sounding worse than it actually is. berto was saying he wanted 50/ 50. which wasn't outrageous at all as he was going to be the one putting his belt up and mosley had just came off of being dominated.

As for this PPV, I think it'll be a lot better than last night's. Does anyone remember Mora's last fight on the Hopkins-Jones undercard? That fight was a complete WAR for the first few rounds. Perhaps fighting Vivian Harris will make Ortiz come out of that safety mode and become vicious again. And if he does, then this will be interesting. As for Canelo's fight, as long as it isn't Baldomir it'll be good. But if it is, it'll be load of crap.
Overall I agree that its not PPV material though.
They tried to get Mosley/Berto, but Berto wanted a bigger split, and it didn't work financially

Mosley's minimum is way too high to have it on regular HBO BAD or Championship Boxing...especially if he doesn't have another supporting headliner...which Mora is far from being..
Cause of how outrageous the promo is. Apparently Sergio Mora is a Mexican legend in waiting who is trying to achieve immortality. Seriously. Apparently millions of Mexicans are aware of Mora's existence. Whodathunkit.
My question is why is Mosley fighting Mora... Why not Mosley/Berto as it should have been earlier this year... Mosley/Martinez...Mosley/Williams....sh*t I would take a Mosley/Judah....Mosley/Clottey... but Mosley/Mora and on PPV...Get the *uck outta here!!!
if i recall correctly, putting it on hbo ppv either doesn't take from hbo's boxing budget, as they are just broadcasting the fight not sponsoring it, or takes very little from their budget.
in other words, it's on ppv strictly for business purposes, not because they think this is what people want to see.
you know what.. Mora has a shot in this fight .., he can win it on punch volume .. shane is pretty old now.. but i think shane can pull it off.. that should really be a HBO fight .. or even better an undercard on another ppv
