Cruiserweight Troy Ross, winner of Season 4 of The Contender television series, has called out IBO Champion Danny Green describing him as a fraud. “He defended his title against a guy who hadn’t fought in nearly 3 years last week, who was a light heavyweight that had retired on medical grounds,” stated Ross. “In his previous defense he pulled the same act dragging a middleweight who had fought one solitary round in 2 years in Manny Siaca? To add further insult he calls Paul Briggs a dog and humiliates him by hurling insults from inside the ring! I saw it on youtube and couldn’t believe it. In America he would be lucky to leave the ring alive with a low act like that – but in this case the commissions would never allow a farce like that to happen here in the first place.”
Contender Executive Producer Jeff Wald added, “It was sad to see Paul Briggs lured out of retirement and treated in the manner he was. Giving him little time to prepare when he hasn’t fought in 3 years is one thing but to then add to it by reducing the weight limit like that was simply insulting. The message is loud and clear – anywhere anytime Danny. Troy is happy to come to your backyard and knock you out in your home country. It’s sure to generate plenty of revenue because from what we are hearing over hear it looks like the Australian public will be happy to pay to see you knocked out…here is your golden opportunity to prove to Australia you are a true champion. I’m guessing he will convert to wrestling or competitive table tennis before he will enter the ring with Troy.”
Let's see if Green responds and proves himself or elects to fight somebody else who is coming out of retirement. I think it will be the latter.
tarver said on showtime recently he tried to get a fight with green but he didnt want none
guess hes not old washed up enough yet
Geez, He's 41 years old and is coming off a what? Almost 2 year layoff. I seriously hope Green takes the challenge and fights Troy Ross otherwise he is going to become irrelevant. If he fights and beats Troy Ross then he will get recognition as one of the five or six best Cruiserweights in the world. If he ignores him and keeps fighting guys coming off massive lay-off's then people will just look at him as a paper champion.
I'm a big Green fan, but the Briggs situation has done some damage. He needs to get a credible fight, but I think more importantly he needs to fight soon so I think he'll settle for Shane Cameron, who is 'live' but not that big a test after what Tua did to him. I would prefer to see him take on Troy Ross who has mouthed off about Green without knowing all the details of Briggs v Green. Ross faltered at his first real test in Cunningham but has dangerous knockout power. Even better if Green would take on Cunningham to silence the critics. Danny Green is a great fighter, but of late has taken a few pay day fights instead of legacy building fights that might not pay as well. I want to see him tested because he does have phenomenal power in both hands and of late when his fights have lasted, he has shown good patience to work out his opponent before going for the killer blow. I'll forgive if he takes the quick Cameron fight to get all the controversy behind him but needs to take the big fight after that, or else he loses a devout fan.
Danny the green Munchkin won't fight
- a natural cruiserweight
- a live opponent
Ross are both these things
Green will probably try to secure Tarver...

Danny Green beat two legends.........
Roy Jones? Who else? What other "legends" are on his resume? Stipe Drews? Manny Siaca? Eric Lucas? How can these people be described as legends?
Green is a chump. Forget him.
He is a bigger fraud than Mundine, and that's saying something.
I agree, There was a rumor that he is going to fight Shane Cameron next. I mean, At least that's a live opponent who isnt coming out of retirement but he was still obliterated by David Tua who as we saw against Barrett isnt all that great. He's one of the best Heavyweights right now but let's face it, The guy has been given a boxing lesson whenever he stepped up and fought serious opposition.
I would like to see Green fight a top Cruiserweight but I find it hard to see him doing it, He's 37 and nobody really cares about his belt anyway. It's only people like Troy Ross and guys like that who are looking at him as abit of a chump and want to fight him. But just looking and hearing from Green, I don't detect any desire from him to fight a top guy in his division.
