Yeah, it's been quite a flop. Lots of big names have fought this year, but so far they've all kinda fallen short in terms of excitement...
Pacquiao-Clottey was boring
Mayweather-Mosley was boring
Cotto-Foreman was OK/good
Williams-Cintron was OK/good, but too short
Martinez-Pavlik was good
Froch-Kessler was OK/good
Dirrell-Abrahem was OK/good
Katsidis-Mitchell was good, but too short
Marquez-Vazquez IV was good, but too short
Bradley-Abregu was boring
Alexander-Urango was OK/good
Lopez-Luevano was good
Gamboa-Mtagwa was too short
Lopez-Concepcion was great, but too short
Donaire-Marquez was boring/OK
Margarito-Garcia was shit
Berto-Quintana was OK
Adamek-Arreola was good
Vitali-Sosnowski was OK
Wladimir-Chambers was boring/OK
Haye-Ruiz was boring/OK
Ward-Green was shit
Khan-Malignaggi was OK/good
Judah-Santa Cruz was OK, but too short
Maybe it'll pick up with this weekend's card, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Not many guys are really going for it in their big fights.
Why i think 2010 would be a good year for boxing:
1. Both Pac and Marg are come forward fighters. Unlike Clottey, we're sure to get a serious fight in our hands. (hopefully!)
2. Its still the middle of the year, so its not too late for surprise fights to come out.
3. Worse case scenario, as you said Dunn, the events this year would lead up to an incredible 2011, so it would in retrospect mean that 2010 would be a good year for boxing.
Of course, on the flip side, there's always murphy's law...
Thats why this year sucked:
The 2nd biggets fight of the year is manny vs a disgraced former champion who got caught cheating. The 3rd biggest fight was manny vs a punching bag with arms where the marketing strategy wasn't "check out the fighters" it was "check out this new stadium"
Paul Willimas, Sergio Martinez, Bradley, Alexander could have all made fights that would elevate all of them to a higher level. Instead they wait for the fight to get "juicy".
And finally, Berto, maybe the 5th or 6th most well known fighter in the US got a $3 mil payday to step away from the Mosley fight (for floyd) and now he expects king's riches to fight when his last fight had about 4500 people in a 9,00 seat arena.
Big step back. More and more it is like pro wrestling, where you either fight for this company or that company. It was bad enough with the exclusive network contracts, but the incestous promotional matchups make it even worse.
well, the year isn't over last time I checked. so far its well below average and there's a lot more talking than fighting. the summer is usually slower, there's still a few fights that can be made to make a comeback
that's the problem, walt.
dudes going back on forth on twitter???
seriously???
these dudes are still "fighters" right? :nonono:
I think its been real disappointing and a step back. Floyd fought once it sucked. manny 1st fight sucked his next fight is highly questionable and feels like it will suck. No paul sergio 2. No Juanma Gamboa. No Bradley Alexander. It's like this year is all about setting up 2011.

I think its too early to make that call. It all depends on how those big fights are gonna play out.

Now that the big fights for the next half of the year are already set what do you think of the year 2010? Step up or down for boxing?
