He is setting a new precedent for boxing. He doesn't know the implications and consequences that his actions might bring to the future of boxing.
You could just imagine how many boxers, who may reach the status of Pac or Floyd in the future, who could win division titles at different catchweights. They could win division titles by forcing opponents to fight at contracted weight limits and with the support of corrupt sanctioning bodies, this could be a reality in no time at all.
We could all be seeing more 7 or even past 10 weight division world champions in the future. It may seem far-fetched. But this, slowly and plausibly, is becoming the future of boxing.
The phenomenon that is Manny Pacquiao is slowly disenfranchising "some" of his believers. I hope Pacquiao is happy at gaining his 8 division title. Best of luck... Cheater
It's not a precedent because catchweight fights, even in title bouts, are nothing new.
Not that I like it though. Titles in boxing have already lost value with the number of belts out there, and more divisions. It means even less when a fighter isn't contractually allowed to weigh in at the weight limit for the division.
Pac always says he is respectful of the sport of boxing.. but he's not... and maybe he is, aware that he is hurting the sport of boxing by demanding fighting at catchweights for division belts. He's not bright at making decisions.
Fighting for the 154 division for title belt at catchweight of 150, with the wrong choice of opponent doesn't bode well for him. History will not forget this.
You do realize that Pac is fighting a much bigger guy who even dela hoya opted not to face. And also note that this fight is most likely gonna be having both fighters use 10 oz gloves which Pac has NEVER used in a fight before.
Also, catch-weights for titles isn't new. Its rare, but not unprecedented in the sport. Its only in this time that people are making such a huge fuss over it. I'm not sure even if historically this will hurt Pac. We'll see.
This thread will find its way among boxing articles written by respected sportswriters to be read by boxing fans. TS opinion matters more than the opinions of Merchant, Sugar and those ESPN dudes that keep saying Floyd is a coward...
Never denied that you dunce. You brought up a 19 year old Pac so I corrected you.
I give Pacquiao props for his 1st fight with Barrera but nothing after that.
Point is, Pac was matched against a counter pouncher who outboxed him. Pacquiao could not handle the step up in class and was gifted the draw and decision.
Only fanboys fell for that shit. De La Hoya was old, drained and shot.
I give Pacquiao props until his last fight at ww. Clottey, Cotto, and Hatton were legit. No one will ever deny that

What does that have to do with matchmaking? roach carefully picked out marquez twice knowing he would win a controversial draw and split decision. You thought delahoya was going to lose against pac what exactly led you to believe that, when he had a close lost mayweather at 154 beat forbes at 150 and was about to fight a career featherweight. Damn dude i know you are a pro floyd fan but you dont need to stoop this low.
1. Arum and Roach weren't with Pac when he was 19.
2. Marquez was robbed. Twice.
3. De la Hoya was shot, old and a walking dead man fighting at a weight he hadn't fought at in 7 years.
1. roach was with him when he took on barrera, leadwaba, marquez and delahoya.
2. What does marquez being robbed have to do with pac being matchmade. How can you honestly say pac was matchmade against marquez or barrera.
3.Delahoya wasn't shot in his last 2 fights before that and he was the one that wanted to fight at welaterweight. How did pac no he would mess up training. And how can you call that great matchmaking pac moving up three weights where 99% of the people thought he would lose.
Emmanuel PacquiaO fans are beginning to realise Arum and Roach have been carefully matchmaking Pacquiao's path to "greatness".
Catchweight King is right.
you know thats absolute nonsense. pac fought sasakul as a 19 year old in his home town for the flyweight title. He took on ledwaba with 2 weeks notice on his first fight in america. His first fight at featherweight was against the best featherweight and p4p 3 barrera. He fought marquez when everyone was ducking him. He jumped 3 weights in a year to fight delahoya.
How can you honestly say he hasn't taken any risks. You are an absolute doughnut.
Right, like i didn't know that. Hopefully he wouldn't be retiring next year like he said he would. He could fight for his 9 division title for the 160 weight division at a catchweight of 156 lbs.
Floyd fans are really pissed huh? Because in all likely hood Pac will be called an 8 weight champion while Floyd only a 5?
Jesus christ, you guys are something else.
The TS wasn't critising Pacquiao's inactivity.
Moron.
Where did I say that ?, post says Catchweight king of the decade which is referring to the up coming fight with Margarito, he can't be catchweight king of the past decade if this fight is in the new decade.
