I agree with those who feel that Lopez should have already fought Caballero. The plethora of excuses Top Rank and Lopez dished out as justification for not making the fight are ridiculous. But at this point, Marquez needs an opponent as well. He is a high profile name who can bring in high profile money. So, like you and I would do, the up and comer wants to take on the established veteran. This is what the new kids should be doing. If not Juan Ma, then who? Gamboa? What if Caballero was given the shot at Marquez? Would they also be taking the easier fight?
How "Battle Worn" IS Marquez?
Marquez engaged in an incredibly brutal trilogy. The effects of this trilogy on his body and fight game aren't truly known yet, but we can examine those 3 fights along with the post fight to have somewhat of an idea. We can't just go off solely on the punishment he took from those fights.
The first fight was the least brutal of the 3. Although action packed, both fighters were getting acclimated to their styles against each other. Rafa was knocked down once, but recovered well from it. Izzy suffered the broken nose.
The second fight, in my opinion, was the MOST brutal. Each fighter went back and forth the majority of the fight. Rafa was knocked down and was on lollerskates in the round he got TKO'd.
But in the 3rd fight, Rafa made the proper adjustments and looked great. He knocked Izzy down and though he was hurt a couple of times, signs of wear and tear or growing old over night were NOT obvious.
I don't think the 4th is even worth mentioning since it was so short.
Stylistically, Marquez provides more of challenge than Caballero
In his most recent fights, Lopez has shown his inability to remain disciplined and composed trading wildly with his opponents. Although he can be considered a boxer/puncher, he has the type of holes in his offense and defense that is more characteristic of a brawler. Opponents who aren't known for their Boxing prowess such as Mtagwa and Concepcion were able to take advantage of these openings stunning or knocking Lopez down.
Marquez, like his legendary brother, Juan, is a master of capitalizing off of mistakes, taking advantages of openings. He is a skilled counterpuncher capable of putting his punches together and setting up traps. He showed the ability to fight inside as well from the outside in his bouts with Vazquez. And we can pretty much agree that Marquez's power is nothing to scoff at. He can punch.
I think this WILL be a tough fight for Lopez and I'll go as far as slightly favor Marquez in this fight due to his skill level and experience. Seldom fighters have the kind of heart that Israel Vazquez has and I think that mostly propelled Izzy to his victories. I'm curious to see if Lopez shares the same quality if he's pushed the limits Izzy was.
you'd think lopez's intentions are obvious to anyone with knowledge of boxing, but obviously, that isn't the case. you get these pea brain dip shits getting up in arms about shit that simply put, makes sense.
this is how it goes around here, which is why i rarely to come here anymore. and the funny thing is its the same old dickheads belly aching about the same ol shit. they sound mad about life so they project it online.
and by no means is this a given for lopez either. rafa ain't no joke and he's been through hell and back.
Sure, a lot of people knew Pac would be hell for Barrera, but Pac was still the underdog and that fight was considered a huge upset. He was seen as a risky, but winnable fight for Barrera. Pac was very green in that fight and for years many boxing fans thought that fight a fluke considering how well Barrera performed the next few years.
Not sure what you meant, but there are also a lot of fans who believe Lopez is too big and strong and will be hell for the battle worn Marquez. Lopez does have a lot more hype going for him than Pac did when he fought Barrera. Juanma has been groomed for a while now to be the next big thing in boxing.i think the old man still has something left, and won't be surprised when he wins
Actually not in the first fight maybe the rematch but not the first fight.
trust me. before they fought the first time i was told that pacs style was poison for barrera. and that was not a knock on barrera. and those same people were saying gbp screwed up when they signed that fight.
pac barrera is a bad analogy. a lot of people knew that fight was going to be hell for barrera

Why would he go and fight an old fighter that is past it when Gamboa and Celestino have been calling him out for OVER A YEAR?
There is only one reason I can think of, and it Pig Latin I would say it was because he is an "itchbay".....
Hey Idiot, ask Caballero why he called out Rafa if hes so washed up, do you even know about boxing, or do you just have that Mexican jealousy towards Boricuas? I think I know the answer. Like 25 said, Juanma has to get his name up more, and he will eventually fight Gamboa and Caba...Juanma has also been calling out Marquez for years, this didnt JUST happen. So next time u talk shit do your homework homie, that "tuff guy" Cababicho called out Rafa and Lopez in the same sentence.
pac barrera is a bad analogy. a lot of people knew that fight was going to be hell for barrera

He has every right to fight Marquez. He has every right to get schooled and battered by Rafa as well.
I like Lopez, but I really think he's still 2 or 3 tough fights short of being able to hang with Rafa. I could be wrong, this could be Lopez's coming out party. Pac was a huge underdog against Barrera and look what happened in that fight. But I honestly think his best chance is a quick KO, but Rafa brings the pressure and he would go down swinging, so that's easier said than done.
I am expecting a war at least early on. I see Juanma folding when he's taken into deep waters. He also has a suspect chin. I know Concepcion has good power, but Lopez was dropped with one punch against an opponent who was already stunned in the corner. Lopez looked dazed at the end of the round, and who if there was more time, he probably would have been dropped again. And the Mtagwa fight? I am sure everyone knows what happened there.
Marquez in 8 or 9.pac barrera is a bad analogy. a lot of people knew that fight was going to be hell for barrera
I think he means that Lopez is choosing Marquez as his opponent with the notion that its easy money.
But, Two-five even if he thinks that is what Jaunma is doing. You can't call Juanma a bitch for fighting somebody who you think he can't beat. It makes no sense.
But, overall Htown rarely makes sense. So is nothing new.
So you are calling him a pussy for taking a fight you don't think he can win?
I think he means that Lopez is choosing Marquez as his opponent with the notion that its easy money.
I like Lopez as I like most boxers, but I have presumed him to be ducking El Pelenchin, just like I've presumed Floyd to duck elite fighters, just like if My favorite fighter at this moment the Punisher,if he doesn't fight Martinez,I will presume that he ducked him!!What pisses me off are the fans of Lopez who were & are quick to call Floyd a ducker, but justify,"or try to",when Juanma ducked El Pelenchin for years!!I just gotta pull for the underdog, why??Because somebody got to show love for the elite fighters that the superstar fighters avoid!!It all started with Winky & that's my path as a boxing fan!!Support the elite fighters with small fanbase's cause they deserve support too!!

Marquez in 8 or 9.
Well lets say this..... Mama has a CHANCE to beat RM because of the battles he has been in and his age.... I still think Rafa beats him though.... But the only that Mama would win would be more because of Rafa's age and wars than Mama himself.....
You must be a politician with all those excuses. I'm sure your Mama is greater than dad but I think you should save that for another site.
These excuses are funny as hell.
Fighter A has chose to fight fighter B but fighter A is really scared of fighter C because he has a big mouth..lol
Though fighter A has only a chance of beating the fighter he took "the easy road to" But its only because of fighter B's previous battles. But Fighter B wins anyway....lmao But Fighter A might win....wtf
:tapedshut
Of course he does 25.....
1. Marquez is old
2. Rafa is past his prime.....
3. Mama Lopez is scared to fight Celestino....
4. Mama is scared to fight Gamboa....
5. Mama is not very good and is taking the path of least resistance......
With that said... Rafa still whoops this bitches ass....
So you are calling him a pussy for taking a fight you don't think he can win?

I have the most respect for Rafael Marquez and think he is great and still has plenty left, But seeing that all the Mexicans are dumping on RM because they don't like Juan Ma but feel Juan Ma will destroy him.
I guess I will just side with Mexicans and say RM sucks and Izzy too.
Now were in agreement..lol
For me it all depends on how much Marquez has in the tank. This is an unknown. I am not mad at Juanma for taking this bout though, he gets a good fight against a well known well respected vet and it gets his name even bigger. Let's see how he can handle this test.
On a side note, where in the **** have you been at 25.
its a big name fight.
people don't understand...... after juanma beats rafa , that's when you'll see gamboa-lopez or lopez-john or maybe even caballero-lopez.
a fight like rafael will improve juanma's name and marketability.
the reason gamboa-lopez , lopez-caballero , etc. can't be made right now is because it's not a big enough fight and not enough money.
after a win over a great fighter like rafa , now those fights might be big enough. now those fights might be enough money.
After this fight, if Juan Ma wins, then we can scrutinize who his choice as next opponent will be for there will be no other name value or acceptable opponents other than Gamboa, Caballero and John. Not at super or his weight.
