A big complaint of boxing fans is that there are too many alphabet champions. It seems like the Ring's titles and ratings are fairly well respected.
One thing I don't understand is how The Ring can have legitimate rankings when they are owned by Golden Boy Enterprises.
It's an obvious conflict of interest. The same way we wouldn't have the Republican or Democratic National Committee counting ballots in an election. Or I wouldn't necessarily trust a movie review from a journalist that worked for the same corporation that produced the movie.
I'm not saying that The Ring has a hidden agenda. I believe The Ring attempts to be impartial. But in a sport where rankings and titles are so important (to what fights a fighter can get and how much money he can get), it seems obvious that having one of the biggest promotional companies making decisions on rankings and titles creates the perception of unfairness.
Shouldn't rankings and titles should be determined by impartial organizations?
Since The Ring is owned by GBE, they are not impartial. Golden Boy has a vested interest in rankings and titles. Even if The Ring are consciously trying to be impartial, the perception is that they can't be.
That's why there are rules on which judges or referees are selected for each fight.
The ratings are voted on by boxing experts all around the world GBP have no influence on them.
