I am a BIG fan of Floyd, I would even say that he is one of the most complete boxers ever to come to this sport... but WHAT IF the Cotto that beat Ricardo Torres or better yet Sugar Shane shows up on the Floyd bout??? I think Cotto does has a legit chance to beat Floyd and turn things around with one punch. What do you guys think????
One thing is for sure....this is a better fight than most people think!!
Floyd is an ATG fighter and Miguel Cotto is a very good fighter. Cotto would win 3-4 rounds because Floyd would allow Cotto to fight at a steady pace and he wouldnt have to worry about gassing out. Cotto wins rounds by landing the harder shots but ultimately gets outboxed.
I think Floyd is atleast a cut above Mosley, I think Cotto would look like he does in most of his big fight he would start out alright and as Floyd figured him out he would tire and have no answers. I think Cotto has some answers for what Floyd does but I don't think he ever had enough as his flaws are still roughly the same and Floyd can take advantage of almost any flaw.
I don't think Floyd would have stopped him back then (atleast cleanly) though.
you're being very generous giving him 4 round, I dont think miguel can even win 2.
I'm saying the version of Cotto that beat Mosley would lose 8-4 in a similar fight to the Oscar fight.
Current version of Cotto would be lucky to win a round.
so you basically giving Cotto a punchers chance and calling it a good chance?
Did you see SSM almost ko May on the second round? All it takes is one punch and it could change the fight completely. You never know, stranger things have happened.
People on this site do not give Cotto a chance on winning this fight, but I believe Cotto will give Mayweather some problems. Cotto lost to Pac the best P4P, but he busted his eardrum in the earlier rounds, how about if Cotto lands on of those punches on Mayweather? All it takes is one punch and Cotto knows now that he was hurting Pac in the first few rounds, this was admitted by Pac. If Cotto lands one good shot on Mayweather, and follows up on Mayweather's body, it might be interesting.:boxing:

no version of cotto can ever beat mayweather. seriously how would he beat him? Style match up is ugly for mr cotto
How is the style match up ugly? Cotto has lost to high intesity pressure fighters.
Floyd is a counter puncher, Cotto usually has his way with Counter punchers. Not saying he would have beaten Floyd but you're logic is flawed.
I think it'd be more competitive than you guys are giving him credit for. Mayweather's style will allow Cotto to fight at a pace that is comfortable for him and take rounds. He will be in his stalking mode and will be able to eat any punch Floyd throws and keep coming.
He may not win, but I think it will be a close fight. I think Cotto handles speed very well, with Pac being quite the exception. Speed has never been an issue with Cotto, its the relentless attack. I think Cotto would take Mayweather to deep waters. He certainly wouldn't gas out in round 2.
But hey, Its rare that its going to happen...I hope we see Berto/Cotto
That Cotto is not showing up.
And that version of Cotto loses a competitive 8-4 decision, looking like the Oscar fight.

Then he would be doing the same thing current Cotto would try to do, break Floyd down to the body and win the latter half of the fight. Kind of like Castillo.
He can't do that though, simply doesn't have the foot or handspeed.

The Cotto that beat Mosley was undefeated and had all the confidence in the world ..... the present Cotto would be missing that no matter how prepared he gets himself. Plus add the fact that Floyd now has a blueprint (see Manny fight - quickness) on how to defeat him.
wouldnt matter what version of cotto showed up.he has always been to slow, which was his main problem vs pacman.anybody with good hand speed is a nightmare for cotto
The Cotto that beat Shane didn't even give Shane a total beatdown. That was a close fight(And some thought Shane won based on him landing more Power punches as opposed to Cotto landing more jabs. Both landed the exact same number of punches).
I'm not going to go into some triangle theory. Styles make fights, and I've always thought Floyd was a bad style for Cotto.
