Simple, because Marquez doesn't have the legs Paulie does. That alone makes a major difference.

JMM has lead in his feet, his fands aren't that fast either, and Diaz could push him to the ropes whenever he wanted to; Pauie moves like a gazelle, has pretty fast hands, and is deceptively strong for a Jr. welter. When I was watching the first fight live I was saying "Why isn't JMM moving?" It was because Diaz could match his foot speed and all he had to do was spring forward and push him to the ropes or a corner.
