HBO should be paying for each individual fight instead of giving guys contracts to appear on HBO because a lot of them won't be stars.
They should have a good fight on HBO every month with a solid undercard.
HBO can invest 25-36M a year in boxing and make a good profit.
When they have exclusive deals with certain promoters, like Golden Boy, and pay $750,000 for a fight that has no meaning like Nate campbell vs Vic ortiz and pass up a fight like Povetkin vs Klitscko that they only wouldve had to pay $250,000 for, then yes HBO is a problem. To keep GoldenBoy happy they overpay for a meaningless fight. They also build up fihghters they want to see make it big. They built up Pavlik and he really hasnt done anything big since his 2 Jermaine taylor wins. Like someone wrote before, their building oBerto up, who imo, isnt anything special. Same thing wit Angulo.
In a word, no. I do wish they would be more open to up and coming fighters *, but they have done a lot for promoting the sport.
* I’ll even give them a pass on that because obviously those fights aren’t making money for the company, and I can’t fault them for wanting to make a profit.
This is true and then they don't want to lose their investments in tough fights so they try to fix it up nice and pretty like, lol
The one fighter they invested alot of money into is berto.Imo he will
get knocked out soon. They should use that money for alexander. Now
hes a star,I enjoy watching him fight.
Those pricks are a big part of the problem.
Why??Where lucky hbo havent turned their back on the sport.Hbo tries
real hard to make big fights this year..Such as pavlik-martinez,klitschko-
haye,maywether-manny,lopez-gamboa,martinez-williams2,mosely-berto.
Blame the promoters.
The problem with HBO is they buy fighters instead of fights.
This is true and then they don't want to lose their investments in tough fights so they try to fix it up nice and pretty like, lol
NO.The promoters are bad for boxing. HBO tries to give us the fights we
want.x2 Not only the promoters but also the number of organizations around (i.e. WBO, WBC, WBA).
All I know is that Showtime is a hell of a lot better at putting up close, competitve fights. HBO is about money and superstars, boxing is not about superstars...that's Hollywood's job
