I'm well aware of the violence and the consequences boxers face in the sport. It's a career decision they decided to take, and yes I cheer them on, as long as the two combatants are conscious and can square off against each other. The highlighted is all I care about. To me it doesn't matter how people compete out of the ring or how boxing was originally intended. I'm not looking for realism. I enjoy the sport the way it is. I have nothing against MMA, I just don't think it's right to hit a man when he's down. If you think boxing needs a few tweaks, fine. I'm not knocking it, it's your opinion, I understand. Boxing like MMA even fencing is only meant to resemble a real fight. Anyways, the rule to me is ok. Boxing IMO is a stand up sport. Don't punch when your opponent is down makes perfect sense. I also think the rules for MMA is ok considering some fighters there are grapplers.

It's fair within the current rules but unfair to the original intent of boxing and how it used to be. You are still giving the person time to recover when he wouldn't have had it if this were an outside of the ring fight between two guys brawling it out. When I bring up MMA, and I know people get pissy about it...but they need to stop and think of what the point is...and that is to say that MMA have one thing more real towards simulating an actual event/fight than boxing. When you have your opponent hurt, you continue on until you finish it without interruption. Of course, rounds are an interruption but we can get to that later if you want. yeah i keep fighting till my opponent doesnt want to carry on or is out cold. I draw the line at hitting on the ground though my opponent is undefended and round my way anyone who hits on the ground is known as a bitch. They dont get any respect and are cowards in many peoples eyes. You can fight fast to get your opponent finished but you dont have to do it like a coward. Modern boxing that you see today is nothing like ancient boxing. Yes, of course. As soon as the opponent looks like he is in no position to go on, you stop...well...unless this is an actual life-threatening attack where the attacker has some sort of weapon and if you have him in such a position, you may want to make sure he isn't getting up to attack you from behind. Either way, your purpose is to finish off the threat in order to make sure your health/life is safe. Sucker-punching is for pussies to. I think those ****ers should be shot. What bothers me is watching these fighters go down hurt, being allowed to recover from outside interruption {ref}, then coming back to win at some point...and then going around jumping for joy that they are the better of the two. This is actually a very interesting subject you have brought up, I never really thought about it. But, my best reasoning for it is that boxing is just fighting rounded out and watered down to make it a competitive sport. So with the placement of this rule of the neutral corner and the standing 8 the fighters must realize the fight isnt over when they stun their opponent they must be able to continue fighting and finish their opponent. Likewise with the fighter that has been hurt he should be properly trained to continue fighting effectively after being hurt. That is always why I always love a fighter that is a finisher.

i dont watch MMA for many reasons but the strikes on the ground. I hate it its actually gash. It makes the fight unfair. Anyone can throw a lucky punch and then jump on your opponent and pound them till they are out cold. Were im from if you get in a fight its one on one. It stays that way no matter what untill either guy fights like a bitch. Weapons and hiting on the floor being the man ones. You knock somone down you step back you let them get up and if they want to carry on you knock them down again. Thats the way i fight thats the way my friends fight. But if watched many friends get repeatedly knocked down and stood their and watched. If my friends had to jump in for me in a fair fight id feel like a right dick. But if theyre getting beaten in an infair fight, on the floor, weapons or geting more people involved their fair game and its going to be painful. MMA matches are stopped way sooner then boxing matches, and reasonably so, a fighter on the floor can't do much more then take the full force of the punches, but 2-3 shots and a fight is over just sucks, and i've seen it a few times. Boxing is a stand up combat sport, and i honestly doubt that a fighter that's been hurt by a punch will recover in 8 seconds, unless of course he wasn't that hurt in the first place. Which has more advantage for a fighter that is hurt: Fighter A that has been knocked down on the ground, hurt, but isn't allowed any time to recover.... Or Fighter B that has been knocked down on the ground, hurt, and is allowed 8 second to recover and is allowed back on his feet? And I've seen MMA matches where they wind up like this... your point? Early stoppages happen in both sports. You can always talk to the ref or go back to the original rules of ancient boxing to make sure there are no early stoppages. The only point I'm trying to make with MMA is that it is more catered towards what fighting was originally intended for as far as picking a true winner as far as sticking with what these martial arts were originally intended for. note: boxing is a part of martial arts.
