not sayin he should fight cotto either but wtf does this version of margarito have to offer.......................
itll be for the 154 lbs WBC belt, what did tony do to deserve a #1 ranking? beat robert "not even rated in the top 50" garcia? seriously panda thinks this fight will put more question marks on pac's extraordinary multi-division reign than it will solidify his ATG status
theyre thinking with their wallets right now and taking a dump on the fans expectations
margarito will not put up a fight, pac will box circles around him, drop him and finish him inside the distance. the wbc wants some of that pacquiao purse so ofcourse they will accomodate making this fight. most people believe tony is shot right now as do most of those people think pacquiao has fought questionable opposition 135-147. panda doesnt agree, cotto and clottey both had a helluva chance to upset pac on paper but tony really is a shot fighter
Honestly I feel that Margarito should face Rhodes for the vacant WBC title, Angulo faces Dzinzurick for to declare the real champ, and Cotto faces Spinks for a unification bout. Then the winners face each other and Pac can fight whoever emerges. This is how I feel its should be, but the champs at 154 are bulsh1ttin.
this would be the ideal way of determining the #1 fighter at 154, great idea
unfortunately both dzinzurik and angulo are promoted by gary shaw and he has no plans of having them face eachother, at least not any time soon
margarito-angulo would also be huge in mexico
Makes it no different from any other fight in his career. Pacquiao has been a protected fighter for this long, why would anything change now? He will never fight an elite athlete boxer cuz he knows he gets beat.
Jealousy will kill us all.
Just embrace the man who will make history.

alfredo el perro angulo who just won a WBC junior middleweight eliminator
you mean the p4p #3 who gave the p4p #1 his last (unofficial) loss and who was picked as a tune up?:nonono:
I agree. FWIW there was a push to make Margarito vs Angulo for a belt but I think the WBO or WBA is trying to force a fight between Angulo the interm champ vs Dzinzurick the regular champ. I think they order that fight just a few weeks ago...not that this means much.

Well he did beat Garcia to win an international belt. He has one of the 3-4 regional belts making him a top 5 candidate and seeing that the WBC has exhausted all the other options, I have no problems with them having Margarito ranked the way he is. I mean who else should be ranked as the number one contender considered those above him decided to pass up the opportunity to fill the vacancy.
I can see an argument for Ryan Rhodes and I know some UK boxing fans were upset at Tony being rated higher, but again this is the only person I can see anyone making a case for.

Fighting a lightweight at welterweight is what does nothing to your legacy.
a 154-lb title would mean history, b*tches!

As a huge Pacfan myself, I can't seem to get enthused about his fight with Margarito or Cotto.
Although Pac is merely doing as he's told, I'm guilty of wanting him to "politely" tell Bob Arum to go take a hike.
Manny has the potential to become "The Greatest of All-Time," but with Arum preventing him from taking on Paul Williams and those at 140 (such as Bradley, Alexander, Maidana and Khan) after being ducked yet again by Floyd, it will without a doubt leave a question mark hanging at the end of Manny's career if he so chooses to take on Margarito or Cotto, and then retire.
Though I respect Manny as a Christian Brother and as a person of character who also possesses inhuman-like talent, I will no longer be able to say that he was one of "The Greatest" if he so chooses to retire w/ out taking on Williams, Alexander, Maidana and/ or Khan.
Paul Williams, Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander, Maidana and Khan have been receiving more than enough media-attention to create more than enough sales if one of them were to contend with Manny.
As a matter of fact, I believe Paul Williams, Bradley and Khan have received more "positive" attention from the media in terms of their greatness than Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto has in the last few months.
If Manny "wants" to be Great, then he has to ditch TR.
On the other hand, I can see where Manny's coming from in regards to his loyalty.
So the real question is, what's more important to Manny Pacquiao? His Legacy or his Loyalty to the man who shaped his career.
As a selfish boxing fan who wants to see him excel, I'm guilty of wanting him to dump TR.
But as a Christian, I would have to say that Loyalty and respect are more important than any kind of recognition that the world perceives as Great.
Then again, everyone knows that Arum is milking Manny.
So, though I can understand where Manny's coming from in terms of his decision making, I would not want to be in his shoes right now.
However, I'm confident that God has helped him with his decision-making.
Therefore, though I don't completely understand what's going on, I'll just just have to trust that God is in control and that my understanding is of no value in comparison to Gods plan.
Peace
his legacy is fine and to be clear panda is not placing any questionmarks next to pacquiao's opponents but it cant be denied that since this is for a paper title against a guy with 6 legit losses and a questionable reputation this will hurt pac's legacy. why would anyone give a cheater a shot at a career high payday against the world's #1 fighter, even if this is for an unprecedented 8th division title how would that go down in the history books. thats my concern
panda was talking about why margarito deserved a spot not why he actually got it, but good post and info none the less

Beating Tony is huge for Pac. Don't listen to these morons.
He was a top 5 WW for almost 10 years AND 3 TIME WW CHAMPION. One loss shouldn't derail his status as a top fighter.
Plus its another guy that Fraud ducked.
I agree it's a good win for Pac
and it is a guy Floyd ducked
tough, bigger guy and good name to add to the resume
just isn't a "legacy" fight Jacky

panda will quote this after pacquiao has beat up a walking heavybag in margarito come november :)
also margarito's record in his 5 fights pre-suspension was: 3-2, thats with the great golden johnson win and without the orgasmic robert garcia win :D
neither david diaz, hatton, odlh or cotto had a record like that yet tony gets a chance because poppa bob is seeing dollar signs
Its still a paper title at the end of the day. Adds to his legacy as he can call himslef an 8 weight division champion a feat unlikely to be matched.
No worse than his WW title won at a 145 catchweight.
how is that? did u not consider cotto a real champ at WW?
don't care about belts
Pac-Tony is an exciting fight
that all to be concerned with
nobody considers this to be a legacy fight
8th division belt is just an added touch
So what?
Pacquiaos a prize fighter. Legacy dont pay bills.
An 8th world title wont harm his legacy.
pacquiao is as financially secure as the philipino president if not more so
an 8th division title wont harm his legacy unless its against his era's possibly most fraudulent fighter and for a title neither of them own
did u not get my point?
He could have much worst names on his resume I guess.
yeah a ww resume that reads oscar, hatton, cotto, clottey and margs isnt bad for a guy who fought most of his career at the lower weights
