This is a weird fight for me. Pavlik can hardly make 160, and he's a pretty stationary target himself. Can't help but question his heart, as well. His corner had to talk him out of quitting against Martinez several times. What happens when he starts to get hit? Will he weather it?
They'd beat the hell out of each other, that's for sure. I would expect Pavlik to win, but would be less than shocked if he lost.
It would be a mistake for Jr. at this point.
Even a semi weight drained Pavlik would be too much. He loves come forward fighters that will stand in front of him and don't have good defense. Jr. has shown a good chin so far, but taking too many clean Pavlik shots isn't something that can be taken without either getting worn down or just outright dropped and stopped.
if jcc can move n box all night then maybe he has a chance but once pavlik loads up on him its over, i dont think jcc can take pavliks punches..pavlik has power dont forget
That's the first time we've ever agreed. :beerchug:
Oh that's doubtful.
We probably agree about more than we disagree about but the topics where we don't see eye to eye just happen to dominate 90% of the conversation on this forum.
I second that.
This fight won't get made. Though it'd be nice to see JCC Jr steamrolled in brutal fashion by Pavlik.

Do people really like JCC jr that much, that they could fill up the stadium? How many people seen him at the Alamodome? If I was Pavlik I'd take it, JCC is an okay name and he could probably ice him and have a nice lil clip for the highlight reel to bank onto a bigger fight in the future, good confidence builder. Top Rank probably knows JCC jr is at his peak and they can't really feed him bums anymore and the fans accept it, so it's a good money maker. Good for all parties.
Bro I was at the Alamodome (I'm from SA) and there was a decent crowd but nothing spectacular. To top it off it was actually sectioned off to make it look more full that it really was and it was still alot of empty seats. My guess is that there were 10k fans there at best, and the thing is if he couldn't sell out a venue in south texas, the part of texas that is the most heavily populated by hispanics, no way in hell does he do numbers up in a north texas city like Dallas.
Talk about a step up for Chavez.
Well, he showed marked improvement after training with Roach for only a short period...who knows, he might level up again after a proper training session with him.
Id be up for it, and Pavlik does have some obvious flaws.
Steve Kim tweeted that Top is really strongly considering making this fight.
What do you guys think about this fight?
That is a really good matchup and Jr is the kind of fighter that suits Pavlik's style- not a slick side to side boxer but an up front boxer/puncher. Arum must think that Pavlik is washed up but he can KO Jr with one punch....I can see Jr losing this fight.
Steve Kim is full of shit, Top Rank will never risk JC Jr. they will feed him a few more bums and then they will give hhim another contender. Pavlik need to be re-build and he is headed for 175 pounds with a short stop at 168.
Kelly Pavlik has said he is considering staying at 160.
