I try looking at this objectively, and honestly every way I look at it I tend to agree with Mayweather. The two main sticking points seem to be the purse split and drug testing.
I don't believe Mayweather wanting Olympic style drug testing it to much to ask for seeing as he accepted the 147 pound weight limit, the 8 ounce gloves request, and agreed to be fined millions of dollars for every pound he was overweight by. Its understandable that Pac would want those things because he wants to even the playing field, but the Olympic style testing is Floyd's way of evening out the playing field and making sure there's no cheating. Like it or not there has been a lot of drug suspicion about Pac for years, I have heard Mangilini, Hatton, and Victor Conte among others being suspicious of Manny. So Floyd wanting to make sure the playing field is even seems fair to me because the testing now is not enough. I remember in 1996 Tyson suspected Holyfield was on Drugs but was never able to prove it and neither could the testing done by NSAC. Over a decade later and after beating Tyson twice we find out that Holyfield was indeed on steroids. Obviously the testing done by NSAC isn't good enough, and quite frankly Manny's excuse for not agreeing to olympic style testing seems pretty weak. The reasons I heard was because he was afraid of needles or because he was afraid his energy would be sapped by the time the of the fight. Honestly those excuses just don't jive, a pro boxer afraid of a needle? Besides before every boxing match fighters have to get tested with a needle anyway so whats the problem doing it withing the days of the fight? His demanding a 14 day cut off just seems suspicious, what does his fear of needle only kick in before the last 14 days of a fight? And the sapping of energy excuse I can't except either because I never heard of any of the Olympians tested being sapped of their energy before their event. Not only that but Floyd is also required to be tested as well. So there is no advantage to either fighter. I just think that if I was a boxer and clean I would have no problem being tested and proving to people who were suspicious that I was indeed clean, especially after Floyd himself made several concessions to make the fight.
As for the money split, I don't know how you can see it any other way. The gates for Floyd's fights are bigger than Pacs, with common opponents Floyd out drew Pac on PPV by a significant margin, and on average Floyd's PPV buyrates are hundreds of thousands of buys higher. How does Floyd not deserve 60%? Pac had a deal for a 50/50 split earlier in the year but declined it and fought Clottley in March instead, while Floyd fought Mosley. Floyd doubled Pacs buys and again proved to be the bigger draw, so again why shouldn't he get 60%?
This is just my opinion, no bashing or retarded insult. But if you have a reason as to why I'm wrong than I'd like to hear it. But to me it looks like Floyd's right on this.
