Thats usually what happens as you move up in weight, you dont get faster.
I'll wait
I am huge PBF fan but a few things have to put into perspective IMO. Usually when a lower weight fighter goes up in weight the fighters they face are slower than they are so even if the lower fighter speed has decreased its not that noticable because they are still the faster fighter. What usually is the problem though is that the lower weighter fighter can not take the punches better and deal with the strength of the higher weight fighters.
IMO Manny has not done a damn thing that impressive to me to make me think he is on something. I agree that all the different excuses and comments that came from Manny himself and people in his camp have raised doubts but as for his performance in the ring I just have not been impressed to that degree.
Also PBF was never a fighter who really cut weight so his rise in weight classes was more normal and gradual than most which obviously was the right way to do it because it has worked well for him. The move to 147 was much more different than I think he realized and he worked on his strength in those 2 years that he took off. I mean I don't remember really seeing PBF in other workout videos doing dips and pull-ups or working with weights.
Manny used to cut a lot of weight and when you stop cutting that much weight your body performs better and add to that (no disrespect to Manny at all) Manny has been since the 2nd Marquez fighting fighters whose style is more conducive to making him look good. Which means he should get the results he has been getting.
honestly he still looks the same, just a little more cautious. He's in it to outlast Roy Jones, and the Mosleys. He did wreckshop at the lower weights but taking hard head shots in every fight will get u nothing but James Toney syndrome.
There is a bit of a decline though. But that happens with age and moving up in weight. As you mention though, his defensive style and ring generalship will lead him to outlast anyone fighter whose primary gifts are physical. There really is nothing cool about taking punishment.
When Floyd was younger and lighter and in his prime...thought not anymore; his ring IQ still makes him the best fighter out there.

Mayweather doesn't have that overall speed anymore. Even at 130 Mayweather faught cautiously, but people don't seem to notice that. Just that at 130-140 Mayweather was that much quicker then everyone else; so he could throw those combinations. 147 was where his overall speed took a noticeable hit. He's still very good though but we're not gonna see those combinations unless his opponents are ready to be taken out.
I never got an answer to this question, but was he as accurate int he lower weightclasses as he is now?
He was so much quicker back then, though he's still faster then most. If u check his punch stats, he was just as accurate but not as accurate as he is now.
What people don't realise is Floyd as a small/average WW.
At the lower weights the guys are less likely to have as much power, so combos can be thrown. As he moved up, 2 things happend.
1. He got smarter
Combined with
2. The guys got bigger/had more power.
I think he realised, less is more most times.
Well, like most fighters coming up from 130 to 147 lbs, his speed is now less.
he's still faster than everyone except pac.
& although he isn't as offensive with the combo's all his punches land hard and faster then all his opponent.
he don't throw more than 2 punch combos.
his punches ain't that hard, which is why he should put together 5-6 punch combos.
IMHO he's actually just become a better boxer,
nope. he's a better potshotter and counterpuncher.
but i still see all the same tools.
it's still there, but he don't use it because he's scared.
Some people just refuse to give credit where it's due.
I'd give him credit if he actually threw 4-6 punch combos again.
If u check his punch stats, he was just as accurate but not as accurate as he is now.

Very good point, thanks for the info. But i also think he was much faster then and able to take those risks and still always be back in position to use his defense. He did become a better boxer at the higher weights though.
its really sad to see how great floyd used to be
