You came correct with valid points. i think it is extremely rare, in any sport, that two people at the top of the mountain are able to meet in direct opposition of each other. even if the argument for #1 in mma was allowed to continue, fedor was never going to fight silva. if kobe bryant and lebron james are guarding each other, there have been defensive breakdowns. neither football sports really allow that one on one contest. I agree. You have a boxer who can fight if needed and makes it looks easy vs. a fighter who has improved his boxing game to a point where he is dominating TOP P4P fighters above his weight class.
