I tell u this. Oscar wasnt respected by many mexicans from mexico. But Benavidez is getting alot of respect. He will be the next oscar IN POPULARITY. This dude is the face of boxing ..... in 5 years or so :boxing:
I really doubt it, Wasnt De la hoya's first fight on PPV or didnt he get paid like $2M for his first pro fight? I doubt anyone can beat that.
Imo delahoya was the ultimate draw.T.v ratings,Fans,Sponsers.I dont
think anyone will draw like him ever again.
I really doubt it, great part of Oscar's popularity was because of his gold medal, his background (story), looks and being so articulate. Benavidez has a lot of talent and he's trained by Roach but he won't face Oscar's level of competition on his way up and he won't perform like Oscar did.
Exactly.
I want to add that I want to see Benavidez's mental toughness.
Will he rise from controversy? Or will he fall because of it...
In all honestly, lol I'm done with being hyped about fighters. From Zab Judah to every other fighter that has failed to deliver over time as of recent, I'm not even interested in prospects until they've shown they can fight big and win big.
It's like I never used to be able to stand Tim Bradley, but he's been delivering consistently as of late. He should have taken the Alexander fight given how much success he's had so far. :nonono:
Andre Ward is another fighter that has been steam rolling the comp too.
I was thinking the same thing.
One of the things that made Oscar so successful was the fact that he was able to rise to the challenges that he was faced with early on. You rarely saw him on the canvas and you never saw him give up. He was solid mentally in the ring for the most part.
Fighters nowadays are spoiled and soft mentally. They don't grow/try to improve, and they give up pretty quick on themselves.
Jose is getting a ass load of hype, people are eating it up like crazy with him having done absolutely nothing yet. So obviously if he rises to the challenges that await him he'll be pretty big in boxing given how much people are high off him already.
Exactly.

Oscar was thrown at the wolves very early in his career.

I don't think Benavidez can live up to what De La Hoya did.
And I want to see Benavidez's chin get tested before I say anything more.
Exactly bro,Oscar was champion by his 12th fight.Oscar had alot of
female fans,Had a rock chin,And was exicting to watch.Just the other
day my friend asked when was oscar fighting again.I was like wtf.
He could come back and still make millions.
His handlers will have to handle him carefully. He could end up being another Fernando Vargas. Seems like a nice kid, but Oscar was an Olympic gold medalist and came up in an era when people were still excited about boxing. Tough shoes to fill.

Thats a tall order!!
Oscar turned as the only American gold medalist from the olympic games and was a media darling. He was a good talker, with looks and personality. He also could fight as a young lightweight. I doubt Benavidez will meet the kind of competition Oscar did in his first 17 fights.
