The guy is a blown up Lightweight, it's amazing he even fought Cotto in the first place.
We should be thankful he was willing to step up a weight again, Chavez didn't go to Welterweight but no one cries about that... No one makes a big deal of Chavez vs Whitaker catchweight either.
If you want to crown someone the "catchweight king", look no further than Bernard Hopkins. He has not once but THREE times fought smaller fighters at catchweights, De La Hoya, Wright and Pavlik.
He made Oscar, a career Welterweight fight him at 158 lbs catchweight (who cares about the belt, robbery), made Winky Wright fight him at 170 (10 lbs above his highest weight) and Kelly Pavlik too. He also made Calzaghe move up but that backfired on him.

calzaghe doesnt really count, hes a huge 168lber meanwhile hopkins fought most of his career at 160. they both moved up to fight at 175, hopkins made the move sooner but started at a lower weight. no size issue there, that u try to look for one shows how biased u are.
the diffrence between hopkins and pacquiao is that except for maybe pavlik (who also is a big guy, cant make 160 anymore) ppl dont rate those wins of hopkins as amongst his best. DLH was a money fight, nothing more nothing less. also getting that last belt im sure meant alot to hopkins since it made him the undisputed MW champ, the first since his idol marvin hagler. wright doesnt play any role in hopkins' legacy eighter.
pacquiaos made his career fighting at catchweights, not comparable to what hopkins did at all. nobody gives hopkins credit for those wins (and we shouldnt) but pac gets all this hype for it and some think its undeserved. i personally dont think fighting at a catchweight eliminates the win, but it does tarnish it. it sure tarnishes him being a 147lb champion given that he won it at 145.
i really just dont see the big deal, but it is worrysome that they already want cotto to not be at 154...like..when my friends saw that they caled me and said "hey you see why ppl suspect him of using stuff...because of THIS type of behavior. its just stupid, why not just fight him at 147 and 154?!! it does raise some questions, but the weight didn't matter then, and it wont matter if they meet again, pacquiao is just in a whole 'nother level.
Pac aint that little.
He was steppingnin fights at 130 weighing 144 pounds. People need to cut that out.
Right. I'm tired of hearing people cry about how he was too small for Cotto so he asked for a catchweight. I'm not buying it.
you gotta love boxing posers
they ask you 'why didnt he ask Oscar to come in at 145'
yeeeeeah....like you can really dictate terms to Oscar the way you can to Cotto
fukking retard...posters like that is what's wrong with NSB
:lol1: Not on Boxingscene, we're all true Boxing fans and Historians.
FLoyd should have at least fought Cotto in any weight instead of retiring....
Oh, I forgot he wanted to spend some time with "loved ones like Leonard Ellerbe"...
Why your panties in a wad? This thread isn't about Floyd, get a grip.
Exactly....brother Naz was sayin the same thing...dude aint as small as he's made out to be and I agree
I KNOW, he isn't.
IMO, I think he should have fought Miguel at 147 pounds. There was no catchweight needed. He fought Oscar (I know its Oscar) at that weight, so I felt that he should have fought Cotto there as well. Manny isn't as small as he is made out to be.

Whether 147 was Oscars idea or not. PAC had NO problem doing it. He didnt ask Oscar to weigh 145 and he didnt ask Clottey.
So why Cotto?
Because Oscar was the draw, Manny had to take all he was offered.
People in here are such whiney little babies about Pac making Cotto go down to 145lbs. Come on now people, don't ignore the fact that Cotto himself said that the weight wasn't the issue, Manny is just too fast for him.

1st off Hopkins didn't have Oscar move up to fight him. Oscar went to middleweight then Oscar made hopkins fight at a catchweight of 156pounds. Kelley Pavliks 2nd Taylor fight was at 166 i believe. and he won that fight. And Winky Wright challenged Hopkins, and it was a match that should of happened when Hopkins was middleweight king and Wright was junior Middleweight king. But no matter the weight Hopkins vs. Wright ends the same way and is an ugly style match up for both, but a Prime for Prime fight Hopkins wins a more comfortable decision. Calzaghe was already moving up in weight to light heavy because he couldn't make Super Middle no more.
So really only wright and Pavlik moved up in weight to fight him. ANd Pavlik wanted Hopkins and ended up with an ass whoopin after saying he was going to knock him out.
But you are right about Pacquiao. He only really had one catchweight fight and now everybody says he drains his opponents lol
its 2lbs...dont make it seem like a MW was asked to shrink down to LW
Those 2 lbs are alot Mak. It's the last few pounds that are really hard to get rid of. Gato was a guest at Lefty's show, dude walks around at 180 lbs. When asked about cutting weight, Gato said "It's easy to cut the weight, but when it comes to those last 5-6 pounds, those last few pounds become a mother fucker to get riid of".
A lot of people on here are so damn gullible. These promoters don't gove a fuck about us, they're agenda is to keep us talking. Keep in mind, Clottey vs. Pacquiao was "so called" gonna be at a catchweight and that wasn't the case. Stop falling for their bullshit, stuff is annoying. Rather then hoping Pacquiao vs. Cotto takes place at 154, we should be hoping this fight doesn't happen.
^^Beautiful....:fing02:
yea, and i dont remember people crying like little bitches when JCC made Pernell fight at 145
It's wrong though, because it has been done in the past doesn't justify it.
