By Chris Williams: According to Fighthype, Dan Rafael is saying that all the “points aren’t agreed to” as far as the contract negotiations between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Two days ago, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum advised Sportsillustrated.com that the negotiations had been agreed to by Mayweather’s promotional company and that the contract was now in Mayweather’s hands waiting for him to look it over and sign it.
Arum said that Mayweather has only until “mid-July” to agree to the fight otherwise Arum would take Pacquiao and look to match him up with his other Top Rank fighters, either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito. However, Rafael says that all the things aren’t agreed on between Mayweather and Pacquiao, which makes Arum’s statement all the more confusing.
If the negotiating points aren’t all agreed on, then why is Arum giving Mayweather and ultimatum of two weeks? Is Arum basically giving Mayweather a take it or leave it offer? There’s some people who think that Arum doesn’t want the Mayweather fight right now, that he would prefer to match Pacquiao up with one of his Top Rank fighters instead and keep Mayweather as a future option next year or whenever Pacquiao is poised to retire.
That would make a lot of sense, because Mayweather is likely to beat Pacquiao and very possibly beat him badly. Once Pacquiao gets dominated by Mayweather, the Filipino’s earning power could take a big hit and he could be a lot less popular once the mystique has been deflated by Mayweather’s blinding fast punches. By matching Pacquiao up with his in-house fighters, Arum can likely keep Pacquiao winning until he’s ready to retire from boxing in a year or two.
At that point, Arum would then match Pacquiao up with Mayweather for one final payday, and a likely one-sided loss for Pacquiao. That would be a brilliant move on Arum’s part, if that’s what he’s planning on doing. It would pretty much be a disappointment for fans, though, because they’ve already seen Pacquiao destroy Cotto, and to see him beat him to a pulp again would be painfully boring, especially if they have to pay $50 to watch it again.
The chances of Pacquiao fighting Margarito aren’t that great, so it’s probably going to be Cotto that gets selected by Arum as the back-up plan, if you want to call it that.
You have to wonder what inside the contract is not pleasing Mayweather. Could be anything, and could be a number of things. Golden Boy Promotions isn’t talking, so all we’re getting is what Arum said a couple of days ago. It would really be horrible to have to pay to watch Pacquiao destroy Cotto again. Forget about Emanuel Steward, Cotto will get destroyed just like last time and it’s not interesting.

Wow, this guy isn't biased at all...
Just ignore this stuff people. Everything Arum says, Roach says, Pac says, Floyd says, his family says, just ignore it all until a contract is signed or never going to be signed, because you can't believe any of them.
if anything breaks down he wants it to look like it is Mayweather's fault, smart move by Arum actually and fans will fall for it and turn it into "Mayweather is scared"
Floyd should be getting the heat not pac. Pac wants to fight floyd wants to retire, wants more money, wants a official drug test. Pac agrees to everything and pac gets the heat. Bullsh#t.
Pac agreed to everything? REALLY?? Who confirmed this?? Arum? :pat:
Is this even respectable journalism?
Seriously, who writes this shit
"because Mayweather is likely to beat Pacquiao and very possibly beat him badly. Once Pacquiao gets dominated by Mayweather, the Filipino’s earning power could take a big hit and he could be a lot less popular once the mystique has been deflated by Mayweather’s blinding fast punches."
He shouldnt say his opinion like its fact, very unprofessional

The problem with this theory is that Arum could totally lose if Manny decides to retire before fighting Floyd, he doesn't and wouldn't take that chance to miss out on the biggest pay day for him and boxing. The reason for the ultimatum is so he could schedule another fight for November and not wait till next year. Betting on a chance that he could still make a fight with Floyd next year, but that's taking a huge risk of missing out on a huge payday.
Great. Another story without any specifics. Then injecting their opinion about how one fighter is scared to get in the ring.
Can we have specifics? Like what was not agreed to perhaps? :nonono:
I feel you homey but since talks are more secretive then Area 51 we can forget about contractual specifics.

That is why they needed to fight and not just heavily rely on "facts", "tendencies", "opinions" because all of these are highly speculative. The fight itself cannot replace anything, if at all.
And thus far, OUTSIDE THE RING, the Mayweather's camp have defeated Pacquiao.
Fine with me. Until they meet in the ring and settle it mano y mano.
It should be obvious by now they're playing the fans and media like an accordion.
Why? bec. Floyd wants to retire for a year or two from boxing? Not to mention Pac agreeing to Floyds additional, unecessary 14 days OST cutoff, and even to no cut-off OST testing. Floyd should retire for good or NSAC revoked his boxing license for not making the fight happen!
listen im not saying Floyd doesnt have a chance to win i think this petty close and i feel Manny will win but i can also see Floyd winning but when i saw which site this writer writes for id have to discard this every writer on boxing news 24 is unbelievably biased and not the usual bias like for example Manuel Perez who has a personal agenda against Manny or an amrican writer who never feels a fighter outside the states is any good anyone who has been on boxing news 24 will know what i mean not all are terrible but the majority are just cheerleading their fighters
Arum wants 2 know sooner than l8r becuz he's got a nov date 4 pac. Its got 2 b signed asap in order 2 promote it right. Crackbaby jr needs 2 grow some balls & fight pac alredy.
