If all the top super middleweights are Europeans why go to America? Who was there to fight?
Bernard Hopkins was a middleweight scared to set foot in Joe Calzaghe's division; he never fought at 168 pounds, why is that?
Roy Jones never fought the best in any weight class he fought in. Joe Calzaghe called him out for years and years and when Roy Jones called Calzaghe out he got the ass-whooping when he wanted it.
Joe Calzaghe beat the best America had to offer 10 yanks fought for Calzaghe’s title, 10 came up short.
Joe Calzaghe beat Bhop and Jones, prime or not they lost. Go to boxrec, go to youtube and see for yourself they lost.
Joe Calzaghe is the best of this era.
We all know that Roy Jones has 7 losses and Bhop has 5 losses, how can people say they would've beat Joe Calzaghe in their primes, do the math (46-0=46)
A career is judged when it is over, not when a guy is in his prime

Dont deflect, we are talking about Joe not Roy. You were asking and I answered. Now all you are doing now is looking at their record at the end of their careers or till now. If you were a fan back then then you know those guys brought something to the table. You are now trying to fit it so it can look good with your agenda. I never said that Joe wasn't a good fighter either. So by your analogy Joe should had fought Tarver sometime before he KOed Jones.
Do a little research and watch some of those fights

I'm convinced....:dunce:
At 160 the only one worth mentioning is a younger Hopkins. At 175 to name a few you had a prime Jones, Montel Griffin, Michaczewski, Tarver, Erdei, Virgil Hill, Henry Maske.
Unfortunately the most recognizable names at 168 were going up or not fighting any more when Joe started his move. Benn was done, Steve Collins didn't stick around long enough, McCallum had moved up but was at the end of his career, McCleallan was tragic.
I would like to see how Joe would had fared against these guys but the timing wasn't there and his division wasn't loaded as it used to be. He fougt the available competition but wasn't nearly as good.
His comming out party to the world was agaisnt Kessler, he adjusted like a master in that fight and took it over. Unfortunately his best match-ups and fights came at the end of his career and makes you wonder why he didn't match himself up against the top names earlier cause he had the stuff to beat anyone of them in their prime

On the time frame and at the weight he was at Collins,
Ottke, Glenn Johnson. Most of his challenges were at a weight above him which he didnt take.

I like Joe Calzaghe, but this thread is ridiculous. He doesn't have a better resume than Bernard Hopkins and he definitely wouldn't have beaten the Roy Jones that beat James Toney.
With regards to the losses and wins, that's also a stupid argument. With the exception of a disqualification that he rapidly avenged, Roy Jones lost for the first time at the age of 35 or so. Around the same age that Calzaghe retired. Who's to say that Calzaghe wouldn't have suffered the exact same fate?
Hopkins lost in his debut which essentially means nothing in the long term and then to a relatively prime Roy Jones. After that, he went for VIRTUALLY the same amount of time as Joe Calzaghe did, beating anyone he faced. He has more fights and fought the tougher opponents.
This is a ridiculous thread because PRIME DOES MATTER. Once you exit your prime, you simply aren't the same fighter. It changes everything. Yes, Calzaghe gets the wins and that's good for him. But to say it's the same as beating a prime version of either fighter is simply uneducated and wrong.
Joe Calzaghe is/was a great fighter. Solid resume and will likely be a first ballot hall of famer. However, he falls short when compared to Hopkins in terms of resume and Jones in terms of skills during their prime.
I guess you have to re-assure yourself of what you believe. A career is not judged when its over simply by the names that are beaten. Not fighting fighters in their primes has everything to do with it
name the so called prime fighters joe calzaghe did not fight?.........
