"HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg has again ripped the Klitschko brothers. IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs) and WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs) have both have previously fought on the network numerous times and routinely fill huge soccer stadiums when they fight, but Greenburg says there is no longer any interest in them from HBO. “I’m really souring on the heavyweights,” Greenburg was quoted as saying strangely on ESPN’s website, rather than that of his own network. “There doesn’t seem to be any interest in the U.S. and there doesn’t seem to be any heavyweights besides David Haye who would have any juice in challenging the Klitschkos. We’re out of the heavyweight division. We’re not playing in that sandbox right now. It doesn’t make any sense for us. The fights happen over there , they’re on tape delay. There is just very little interest in this country.” Greenburg added that HBO definitely will not televise Wladimir Klitschko against unbeaten Teddy Atlas-trained Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (19-0, 14 KOs), nor Vitali Klitschko’s next fight unless the opponent is David Haye or Tomacz Adamek. Previously Greenburg had famously stated that the American public can’t tell which brother is which."

That is why the most popular boxers in the US are manny pacquaio(filipino), Cotto(rican), Floyd(african american), and Oscar(retired).
You're still completely missing the point. For the third time, the issue is not whether Americans will watch the most entertaining overseas fighters, it's whether they are as willing to watch top fighters from overseas who are relatively boring as they are to watch top fighters from the US who are relatively boring. And the answer is that they are not. Just as Germans are more willing to watch relatively boring fighters from Germany than they are to watch relatively boring fighters who are not from Germany. Why is it so difficult for you to understand such a simple fact?
Here it is for the fourth time in words of one or two syllables:
All fight fans will watch an exciting fighter, wherever they are from. But when it comes to relatively boring fighters, fight fans are much more willing to pay to watch them if they are from their own country.
Is that really so hard for you to get your head around???
Plus the time difference means that you can't watch the Klitschskos' fights live, if you're in the USA; and the fact that it would have to be on tape delay (or in the early hours of the morning) makes it even less attractive to HBO - and that would be true even if the Klitschskos were a lot more entertaining to watch than they are.
The fact is that there are plenty of HBO fighters who are not big draws, and who are not entertaining, and always have been, and almost all such fighters are American.
Doesn't seem fair. Not the K bros biggest fan myself but they are legit champions. I bet the fact every each one of their opponents failed to even come in shape to fight has something to do with it. The rest of it is the lack of public interest.
The UFC is run by Dana White, not by Ross Greenburg.
America has no problem watching the Klitschkos, they have lots of fans despite their low media profile. It's just Ross Greenburg and a few media people like Teddy Atlas that don't like them.
I don't know that it's so much that Greenburg doesn't like them but he needs a scapegoat and the Klitschko's just seem to be the most convenient.
He's pretty much run HBO boxing into the ground with the exclusive agreement with GBP for certain dates. Yet since HBO has no way out of the agreement they have no choice but to look outside of the GBP stable for fighters to blame for their failure.
Greenburg should be coming out and saying what a bunch of bullshit it is that GBP has these matchups they'd love to feature like Khan-Maidana and instead HBO is being screwed into airing Khan-Malignaggi and how the lack of profit from those type of broadcasts will continue to cost the fans the chance to see fights like Klitschko-Povetkin.
You're the one bringing up race, not me, you idiot.
You're completely missing the point. The point is that Americans will pay to watch American fighters who are not entertaining, just as Brits will pay to watch Brits who are not entertaining, Germans will pay to watch German-based fighters who are not entertaining, and fight fans from every country in the world will pay to watch top fighters from their own country who are not entertaining.
The point is not whether Americans pay to watch the most entertaining foreign fighters, the point is whether they are as likely to watch a non-American boring fighter who is a good fighter as they are to watch an American boring fighter who is a good fighter.
If you are seriously claiming that they are, or that anyone from any country is as willing to pay to watch a top fighter who is boring who is not from their country as they are to pay to watch a top fighter who is boring who is from their country, then you are simply being ridiculous.
And as I've pointed out over and over again, HBO have been loyal to a very large number of boring American fighters over the years. I don't criticise them for that, they're in business to make a profit, and it's simply human nature that American fight fans, like fight fans from every country in the world, are more interested in watching boring fighters from their own country than they are in watching boring fighters from other countries.
That is why the most popular boxers in the US are manny pacquaio(filipino), Cotto(rican), Floyd(african american), and Oscar(retired). Floyd is popular because he is clearly the most skilled boxer in the world in one of one of the hottest weight class and one of the most beautiful defense. And also people pay to watch floyd lose. Shit didnt ward vs green almost got canceled in ward's home town because of lack of ticket sales.
Shit yall naming andre berto like he actually a pay per view draw.

Dave Rado and Tunney play the race card more than Al Sharpton.
Its so funny to see you and Tunney go at it. Easily the two most racist idiots on this forum trying to play the moral high-ground.
that rado guy is more conceited than the pope. trying to play the race card because the klitskcho are fukking boring to watch on television.
You're the one bringing up race, not me, you idiot.
americans appreciate entertaining genius. no matter where they are from.
see the beatles.
see the rollingstones.
see the roger federer.
see usain bolt.
see manny pacquiao.
see every entertaining NON AMERICAN genius.
Do the klitsckhos qualify as entertaining genius in their profession?

What the fuck are you bringing race up for???? I never once mentioned race. Keep race out of this you racist idiot.
I think heavyweight boxing could get a big boost if carwin and de leon leaves MMA and challenge the Brothers.
Btw, what time is Lesnar-Carwin, any link to the streams?
HBO didnt drop bernard because bernard is with GBP who is with HBO. Pacquiao is not american but he's headlining ppv & doing well. Its because he's entertaining.
Same thing with roberto duran, alexis arguello, izzy & rafa, julio cesar chavez, & all entertaining NON AMERICANS.
Klitsckhos are not entertaining. That's the main reason they got dropped.
Americans appreciate entertainment. They could care less about where you come from. but if you are fukking boring to watch & NON AMERICAN wtf do you expect to happen?
HBO has no problem airing this guys fights.

They are already signed for Showtime. not sure if its just a one fight deal or a contract but from this thread you'd think the Klits were banned from American Television..lol.
I edited the post you quoted to include another important point.
HBO thinks they are bailing out their sinking ship by not paying for this fight, in reality they are just punching another hole in the hull of their tinfoil boat.
GreenBERG is a numbers guy, not a boxing guy. He doesn't know Muhammad Ali from Saddam Ali from Prince Ali Ababwa.
That's the most likely scenario.
Showtime has proven over the past year that they are the Network to subscribe to if you want to see competitive boxing with world class talent instead of Golden Boy retreads fighting Golden Boy retreads.
And as I said earlier, if you want to know why HBO is making such a stupid decision just look at the last 4 letters of the guys name who made this decision.

Godamn shut up whining. Just watch them on Showtime.
That's the most likely scenario.

HBO is trying to spin this is "The Klitschkos aren't good enough" but the reality is that they are forced to make this decision by all the stupid decisions they have already made that cost them millions upon millions of dollars.
HBO should own up and tell fans, "Sorry we can't give you the matches you want and the fighters you want because we have wasted too much money on Rocky Juarez and the boatload of fagg*ts that Super Homo De La Hoya has force fed us"
& that's why hopkins never was a great ppv draw.
HBO never dropped him, that's the point.
And who cares about being a PPV draw apart from accountants? From the point of view of real boxing fans, the more regular non-PPV fights, the better.
HBO have stayed loyal to loads of fighters who were no more entertaining than the Klitschkos and who were far lower in terms of quality - but the difference is that those fighters were American.
Did you honestly find the aptly named Tony Tubbs entertaining? HBO had no problem showing his snore-fests.
They had no problem showing Hopkins' fights either, even his fights against third rate opposition.
Stop trying to pretend the fact they're not American has nothing to do with it - that just makes you look stupid. British fight fans are mostly interested in seeing British fighters, German fight fans are mostly interested in seeing German-based fighters, and the American fight fans are no different - in fact they're a lot worse, because most Americans are notorious for thinking the whole world revolves around the US and for taking little or no interest in the rest of the world. That's not just true of boxing but of everything. It's partly due to the fact that the US is so huge that most Americans never travel outside their country, and partly due to the culture. It's common knowledge and it's ridiculous to deny it.
the germans watch the klitsckhos because that's all they got in boxing.
Shows how little you know - there are a lot of German-based fighters ranked in the top 10 at one weight or another. Proportionate to their population, they have as many as any other country does and more than most. Admittedly most of them are Eastern Europeans rather than German nationals, but that's besides the point.
I thought that Vitali's fight with Arreola did good TV ratings if I remember right. Anytime a fight on HBO does high ratings it maximes HBO's profits. So now that I stop to think about it I don't understand why HBO are kicking the Klits to the curb. Do those ratings only come from European TV viewers? Is this the problem?
You're a complete moron.
The Klitschkos are more skilled and talented than Adamek.
And this is coming from a big Adamek fan.
Arreola's face looked more busted up than when Vitali fought him and Vitali did his fair share of keep away in the fight too. I'm not saying Vitali fought him like a pussy, because after all he did stop him. I just view Adamek as a more virtouso boxer than the Klits. And by me praising Adamek proves I'm not biased against European boxers.
