Real Talk Yall should be watching HBO right now the story of Joe Louis. His story is the reason why I don't blame fighters for looking to get their money. Joe Louis was a great fighter but too naive. At the end of the day the fans appreciate your battles but they aren't going to pay your bills. His was the extreme but it still reigns true today.
It literally just aired on HBO but http://www.hbo.com/sports/joe-louis-americas-hero-betrayed/index.html
oh copy and paste for some reason the link didn't work.
anybody has a link or the name of the documentary so i can find a link ?

Not saying its the same I agree things are waaaayyyyy better than what they are now. I really think though that Joe thought that by being a good american and being of service to the government and the american people that he would be taken care of. I believe that because when he was in the military service he was continuing to spend money like it was still rolling in and even borrowing to continue spending but that is just not true. And it is still not true in today's society.
Mike Tyson was no hero like Joe Louis, and for all his complaining about being broke he still lives in mansions, drives 100 thousand dollar cars and sh it. Mike will be well taken care of forever, and he was an animal.
What they did to Joe was charge him exorbitant interest on taxes that he didn't even know he owed. Floyd knows full well what he owes and the IRS has negotiated with him to lower what he owes just so he will pay. Not remotely the same thing.

i never said they dont deserve to make money they make, believe me if it was up to me i wish they'd make double what they make now.
and yes fighters should manage their own money with care, but what happens to their money is not in any relation to the fan.
Agreed i'm not in anyway trying to down the fans i'm just saying this is how it is and thats why I do not blame fighters for taking the actions that will make him the most money.
Yeah they're not on a witch hunt to get him because he has the money to pay them lol

Your missing the point entirely.... I never said that it is the responsibility of fans to take care of fighters. I am merely stating that the fighters should take care of his money first and foremost and make his money because the fans will not even if you do live at service to them. The way you write about it Fighters don't deserve to make the money they make. Fighters work their ass off outside the ring and put their health at risk inside the ring for entertainment. They've earned their keep.i never said they dont deserve to make money they make, believe me if it was up to me i wish they'd make double what they make now.

I wont feel bad for Floyd as I don't believe there is a government witch hunt to get him. The same can not be said about what the IRS did to Joe Louis. Times are different now, not perfect but much better. Still, that has nothing to do with how Joe was mistreated.

if you're responding to me then you would know i did not relate it to louis as it was a different situation.
im replying to OP and another poster who's blaming the system for boxers ending up broke. joe louis got a raw deal
but
other fighters are spoiled and should not be brought into this. they are also making the kinds of money louis never dreamed of
how is it anyone's problem except the fighters? Top level atheletes are paid millions and millions of dollars, the kind of money that people on average salary wouldnt even dream of. how an athlete handles his money is his own bussiness.
no one is responsible for mike tyson being bankrupt except for mike himself.
for instance take floyd mayweather who's filthy rich by our standards, if he were to go broke tomorrow you would expect fans to babysit him and give him hand outs?
i dont ****ing think so

Yeah they pay them as long as your fighting but if you don't take care of your money by the time you retire the fans are not going to come out of pocket to pay your bills. Thats what i'm getting at.

they sure as hell pay pacquiaos, mayweathers and de la hoyas bills
not to mention countless other athletes from different sports.

As much as I love being an American. You are absolutely right. This country will chew you up, and spit you out. Without any remorse.
dont overdramatize this shit
people in this country are better off than people in most other countries. america is the place for movie stars and athletes, and it's a land of opportunity.
dont take the story of one man and turn it into just another thing. yeah what happened to louis was shitty, and was wrong, but times were different then, people were different then, the generations have moved on.
I commend Joe man... It takes real character to remain the person he was for so long when they did nothing but berate him for it. Thats why I say these fighters need to put their family first, themselves second, and the fans third. Thats how I feel.
