I agree. Yuri was an exaggerated tuneup opponent. Once Cotto handles Margarto in a rematch, Berto at 147, or someone else elite at 154, I'll be ready to say he's reestablished himself. The beatings he took from Margarito and Pac are still hanging over his head right now. I wanna see him win a tough fight.
lol Freddie Roach is an idiot!!! I am really starting to dislike the guy! ****ing guy can't keep his mouth shut!!!
If he is so brave and sure that Cotto is done than his fighter Chavez Jr. should have no problem with Cotto. I am sure that Cotto wrecks both of his 154 fighters easy.
Because Pac can't make the minimum for 154 lbs.
Sounds like team Cotto is willing to take another catch weight for the opportunity but this is all hypothetical. Im interested though, please enlighten us all, what is the minimum weight you have referred to?
This is a tactic and cheap one using leverage of the good old $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to gain an advantage against someone Roach feels should retire. A classless move, I hate catch weights.
I agree with what Roach said other than the fact that Cotto has always got hit at will. But why is Pac's manager saying he wants a catch weight? What a joke.
He's a piece of shit in the media. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. He's a glamor whore.
Its the media always going into his gym, asking him questions. not the other way around.
So Cotto should retire but yet he wants to put Manny back in there for the title. On top of that Foreman was a fight they didn't want cause his size and movement. Roach is such a hypocrite
I am 100% with Freddie Roach on this video. Everything he said was on point. Cotto's not going anywhere unless he takes it easy and settles for fights like Margo II, Berto, Chavez Jr, Spinks or maybe Mosley II (although this could possibly be a close one).
Guys like Angulo and Kirkland would beat him in Margo fashion, and many other guys and that division would soundly decision him. He should focus on the money fights from here.
I agree with you but the warrior in Cotto won't settle for that. Many times people always ask the question "Why are the athletes the last to know?" It's because they are prideful warriors who never quit.
Cotto probably thinks he can beat Pac still if they rematched. I think those fights you mentioned are the best for Cotto.
So having a catch weight is worse than forcing someone to move up in weight? If you care so much about weight and believe it is a big factor in fights then you be crucifying Floyd.
And he still could not even make the contracted weight.
Roach: "But Manny and i wouldn't mind fighting Cotto at 154, at a catchweight of course."

When a 3 time Trainer of the Year speaks........you should all listen. If there was a Trainer of the Decade award....he would win it. :D
^^^agreed, i just don't think he's being serious about Cotto should retire. I think he said that for other reasons.
Freddy was probably way too harsh but its hard to argue with anything he says. He's being brutally honest and well its exactly what the media loves in this day and age, when everyone wants to be politically correct. I always find Roach's interviews very interesting even though sometimes he's hard to understand... haha...
I agree about Cotto as far as the Foreman fight...he has a few fights in him tho...as long as they aren't with Pacquiao...careful matchmaking...
Vanes wouldn't knock Joe Greene out if he tried his hardest tho...
but arnt they considering fighting him again for an 8th divisional title
I think Roach is using Cotto's name to goad Floyd into making the fight happen. But i wouldn't doubt that Freddie would make this move. But then again, he's been known for flip-flopping,
he says that now but I guarantee he'll start switching up if Manny fights him again at 154lb. Roach is a flip flopper I saw a youtube video about him changing tunes all the time.
I'm not so sure, but i'd like to see a rematch against Mosley to be able to tell exactly where he's at.
Yeah, that would probably be a good "barometer" to see where he's at. Mosley still has enough to trouble Cotto and make him use all he's got.

As for Cotto, the guy can still beat most at 147lb. He can beat Mosley in a rematch along with Clottey without a headbutt of course for those who said he lost those two fights. He still has it.
