One of my favorite prospects. I remember when he sparred with Timmy a while ago. Looked pretty impressive in the ring with a top fighter. I'd like to see him take out Mike Alvarado for that #10 spot some time if he's still a JWW (The Ring has him at #10 at JWW, but boxrec has him at WW).
Benavidez and Jesse Vargas would b a scrap I'd pay to watch. A most def toe to toe battle. Both good prospects
Yes, that would be a great fight. Their amateur fight was great, so I'm sure their pro fight will be too.
I've heard a lot bout this kid, got to see some clips. You guys think that he's better than Mares?
Of course he aint better than Mares. Mares fought the top dog of his division and held his own. Now Benavidez obviously already has the skills but now its up for us to see
1. If he can fight a whole 12 rounds without gassing.
2. Can he take a punch?
3. Will he overcome adversity once he gets hurt?
Once he pass those tests then he is ready for a belt.
Pacquiao is. It's straights, towards the head. What is unpredictable about that? If you have the speed to keep up with him, then he won't be as big a problem as he is against slower guys. (ex: david diaz) Doesn't mean he isn't great or he doesn't belong p4p #1.
I will hold off on Benavidez. People jumped the gun with Victor Ortiz as well, and then Maidana showed up. So, I will hold off on Benavidez, from what I see, I don't see anything extraordinary.
Everyone jumped the gun with Hasgawa, until Montiel showed up....
I agree.
The cool thing is that we'll get to see literally EVERY fight of his coming up. Its not like he just burst on the scene as a 21-0 prospect. It will be fun following his whole career.

Yeah bro,I love watching prospects develop.

If he can take a punch,Then yes.He has speed,power,range,Tho
he needs to focus on his footwork a lil.

He is pretty damn good....overall skills 95% and getting better
I'll say there are a lot of hype jobs out there but he is not one, he is pretty special. This dude looks calm, mature, and precise in the ring...it is going to take a tough vet to even bring out the best in him. Based on what I' ve seen, he is pure gold in there.......
I agree.

people really sleep on how good Oscar's resume pre 147 was
as for Benevidez kid is developing some sick power as he matures
Yea his body punching is pretty nasty. There are few times when I have seen him throw some sick body punches.
The kid's technique is great and he looks like an offensive powerhouse. He just seems to know how to box.
The most important factor for a fighter, especially a young one, is maintaining focus and staying hungry. It's one of the biggest reasons Pacquiao is where he's at. If he doesn't derail from those tracks, he has all the tools to become a great boxer.
How can having one of the all time greatest resumes be protected as hell??

You want to know an interesting fact about Oscar?
He never, ever ever ever even in his first few fights. Fought anybody with a losing record. I repeat never fought anybody with a losing record.
Oscar on the real was not protected. He got thrown to the wolves pretty early. Hell I even heard that Arum was thinking to putting Oscar in their against Genaro Hernandez in his pro debut. That how much faith Arum had in Oscar.
Arum also threw in Floyd Jr to the wolves early. Arum didn't protect Floyd Jr because he had faith in him.
To a very lesser extent Cotto also was thrown semi heavy in there. Again Arum is confident about his prospects.
It all depends on how confident Arum is with Benavidez. If he thinks Benavidez is the real deal now. He would step him up quick ala Oscar and Floyd. If he still thinks the kid is almost there then it will take a little longer ala Cotto.
If he thinks the kid needs a lot of work then it will be JCC jr all over again.

You couldn't be more right, whoever said Oscar was protected doesn't watch boxing. He fought John John Molina 17 fights in! A champion with 39 fights and a guy who's style was very, very rough.
People can say what they want about Oscar but he was the truth and his resume is one of the best ever.

Pacquaio predictable, wow I have heard it all now. I think he does what he does but countering and catching it are two very different things. Pac throws from angles that aren't normal, let's just say that.
yeah that is true, Arum is going to protect the hell out of this kid just like he did with Oscar

Quick question: How did this turn into a Pac thread.
Jack mentioned about me saying Pacquiao is predictable. Which is true. Then Johncods decided to turn it into a pacquiao discussion.
I'm done talking about it though, he can continue if he wants but I'm done.
Are u high or did u just watch boxing recently? everyone who has been in the wrong end of an pacquiao ass whooping have all said they don't see where his punches come from or they come from weird angles. Name me a better offensive fighter than pac today??
