He'll win the tournament I think. And he may even be able to beat Bute. But if he moves up to 175 I think Dawson would outpoint him and I think Tavoris Cloud would definitely put up a better fight against him than Allan Green did. And Ward couldn't afford to get reckless swinging wide left hooks like he did. If you notice Green rocked him really bad a couple times in the fight and Ward tried to act like it didn't affect him, but it did. Wait until he gets in with someone who is well rounded with skills, power, and the heart to go with it and he'll be in trouble. I honestly wonder if he can even beat Bute, and people know I'm not a Bute fan either.
People who say things like Ward is a future P4P star really do overlook the flaws that he has. He's still wide open and his left hook is garbage, which in turn makes him vulnerable against someone who has a better one which Green actually had. It's just that he's an uncoordinated dolt who couldn't capitalize and he let Ward clinch him right after he was hurt.
Too slow and easy to read. Fights once per year. Signed with Don King. In a couple years, he'll be a gatekeeper with a puncher's chance.
All of that sucks too I'll admit. But hell, Andre Ward went a full year without fighting too and had other layoffs and look where he's at now. In fact as far as career stalling goes, Ward and Cloud are good examples to compare. Say what you want about Don King, but he is a step up from the promoter that Cloud had to begin with. Devon Alexander has King as a promoter, but that doesn't stop me from liking him.
I personally think Dirrell will beat him. Dirrell is very fast and reacts quickly. His left hook has some snap as well. He is also fast on his feet and will not get mugged.
Tavoris fukking Cloud? Just stop.
Although I do think Dawson beats him.
I figured you'd be a fan since he fought some of his fights in Chicago. To each their own I guess.
its not great....
his inside game is good...
floyd mayweather's inside game is great
calling ward's inside game great is disrespectful to mayweather...
im a big ward fan and he is talented but he still needs time to develop. regardless, he is young and one of the best.
I didn't call his inside fighting "great". Re-read what I said. I said that inside fighting has been great FOR his overall game. But he is pretty good fighting on the inside. And yes, I am big fan, and I have been following him and he is getting better with each fight. I know that he isn't a finished product. Even with that, I think he wins this tourney.
Whenever Green landed flush it hurt him. I don't remember what rounds, but it happened. I didn't say Ward lacked heart. I'm just saying there are people on here who worship him as the next coming of Jesus Christ and I'm pointing out why I think he's beatable when I compare him to certain guys. That's all. I'm not in any way saying he sucks.
Ok, I will just have to rewatch it. I personally don't remember Green hitting him with anything that big, honestly. I'll rewatch it though and pay closer attention.
I still dont think Ward can beat Dirrell in a jabbing match, if Direll plays jab and move, he will win, Dirells defense is the best in the match and his reach will make it damn hard for ward , if he beats Dirrell convincing i might start believing the sugar ray leonard comparisons that them showtime commentators mentioning
OK, everyone seems to have different opinions on how this fight will go. I think Ward will beat Dirrell. I think one thing that stands out with Dirrell is his footwork. I like Dirrell, but his footwork has been sloppy and he has been all over the place. I think he needs to fix that before fighting Ward. But Dirrell is a talent as well. I'm really looking forward to this one, that friendship won't mean much when that first bell rings.
:usa:
I didn't like how he rushed in at times but I dont think he is a ko waiting to happen
dirrell is going to be a tough fight but besides direll i dont see any in the super 6 giving him any problems r
Yeah, I don't like Dirrell and I think he'll cause a lot of problems for Ward as well.
Ward isn't just an inside fighter. Dude can box from the outside. His inside game has been great for his overall game though.

Again, what rounds did he get rocked really bad? Also, you act as if Ward isn't skilled, well rounded, or has heart. And what young fighter DOESN'T have flaws, lets be real here. Ward is a talent and an extremely focused fighter that I suspect to be around for a while and will be hard to beat.

Agreed i think Dirrell is going to win! he just needs to use the mayweather type discipline and keep ward from coming inside with his jab and he wins everytime. He will fight the boring fight and beat Ward. I believe he will do this and win

If Ward gets by Dirrell, who I think is really a horrible style matchup for him, the sky is the limit. That will be his true test because Dirrell has some serious advantages over Ward that it will take someone truly elite to get passed. I can't wait for that bout.
He doesn't need to fight Bad Chad to get n the p4p list, and he would have to fight 3 more in the super six and then fight Bute before he goes up. I wouldn't totally rule him out of beating Dawson, cause Bad Chad aint fought anyone in Wards class unless u talking about a bunch of pensioners who aint got the stamina or activity that Ward gives u.
I wouldn't totally rule out Ward beating Dawson either, because Dawson lacks an inside game even though his inside fighting isn't horrible at the same time though. But even still, I'd favor Dawson. And I think Tavoris Cloud would beat Ward too. Of course one of the reasons are because he's bigger and has more power. But it's also because his punching technique is better. 168 has fighters that are decent that match up with each other I think. But Cloud and Dawson I think are more than capable of beating all of them.
Ward's defense is nowhere near as good as Hopkins or Mayweather. Let's not kid ourselves here. The reason he looked good against Kessler and Green is because they were tailor made for them. They were like deers caught in head lights.
kessler aint that bad.. he just seemed to not have his counterpunching game where it should have been. Green was going to be tough for the early rounds thats all though
Too funny, I was actually thinking about how I would go about facing Andre Ward and Miguel Cotto popped into my head!
This was last night during the fight too!
No way :lol1:
:fing02:

The biggest problem i see for Ward is that he has a tendency to jump in with punches but occasionally throws them from the wrong distance, meaning, if he gets in there with someone who can time his rushes, step back and nail him with a counter, he could be in trouble, also, he has a tendency to gravitate toward the ropes, but with a wide stance, too wide imo, that could leave him open to someone who double/triples the jab and comes with the big right hand, particularly as he likes to circle to the left a lot, now Kessler in theory should of been able to take advantage of this, but Kessler attacks in straight lines and can be offset by movement, he needs a stationary target in order to get off, however, if, like i said, a fighter can cut the ring down(as Cotto did against Foreman) whilst doubling/tripling the jab and throwing the right hand, Ward will get nailed imo.
I think J D Jackson's plan for Green was to stalk him and make him take the lead, where by he might throw one of those punches where he leaves himself open and Green can counter him coming in, problem is, Green is not a particularly good counter puncher, plus he goes to pieces in big fights and stops punching.

I disagree, Ward defense and head movement is pretty good, of course it is not on the level of Mayweather or Hopkins, I never said it was, Ward is only 26, he will only get better with every fight
reason why I say he will be tough to KO is because he does a good job not allowing his opponents to get off offensively, the way he uses his clinch is legal and effective just like Hopkins uses it, Ward is already great at disrupting his opponents rhythm offensively, it would take a skilled BOXER with good footwork and speed to beat him, that is why I say Dirrell will be his toughest test because Dirrell has the speed and the footwork to get out and stay away from the clinches

I don't know, with that style it is going to be tough to land clean Power Shots against Ward to Knock Him Out or even Knock Him Down, Hopkins uses that same style and Bernard haven't been KO'd and he hasn't been Knocked Down much during his great career, it might be "boring" to watch for some but it is extremely effective
