Other boxers in history that are considered great, few of them have defeated every single opponent that defeated them...Lewis rematched and beat everyone who beat him, and this is why his legacy is so great in my opinion...
It's unfortunate that other boxers out there today will lose, and not care to rematch the guy who beat them, and still consider themselves among the best in the world. It's gutless if you ask me and Khan should be ashamed of himself not rematching Prescott. In fact after his countryman lost to Katsidis, he was talking about avenging his countryman's loss...khan how bout you avenge your own loss, buddy?
Same thing with Pacman early in his career got ktfo and never avenged the loss. what is up with that
And even the losses he had, I know it's a pathetic excuse, but they only happened because Lennox fought half-ass. As obvious by the results of the rematches.
he didnt duck the best he just fought guys out their prime argubly lost to mercer and holyfield 2,theirs been way to many threads on lennox resume lately am staying out this because holyfields is better imo
He did duck Byrd and Vitaly.
First, Byrd just came off a win against Holyfield, the guy Lewis arguably lost to in their second fight and who he didn't have an easy time with Holyfield at all. Byrd fought everyone -Vitaly, Wlad, Tua, Holyfield, Ruiz, Golota, list goes on and on. Basically every champ or top contender there was to fight at that time, Byrd fought. Byrd beat Holyfield in December 2002, he became mandatory to fight Lewis. Lewis dropped his belt so he wouldn't have to fight him and scheduled a fight with Kirk Johnson instead. Johnson got injured and Vitaly stepped at the last moment to replace him...
Now here is where the Vitaly duck comes in. Lewis beats Vitaly via doctor stoppage while loosing 4-2 on the official score cards. He promises Vitaly a rematch in the ring, in front of millions. Then calls Vitaly to meet his mother and him. After Lewis' mom meets Vitaly, he calls Vitaly and tells him that there will be no fight. Lewis officially retires and drops all his belts.
Ducks in both cases.

thats some bs. do u really think lewis was afraid of byrd.
You stated that he didn't duck the best of his era. To me, dumping of a belt is a clear duck. Maybe fear was not a motivation but risk aversion was. Either way, it's a duck.
thats some bs. do u really think lewis was afraid of byrd.
Not afraid but thought he wasn't worth the risk. He dumped a perfectly good belt to fight a no-belt virtually unknown Kirk Johnson instead of fighting a very well known Byrd who was a former champ.
Actually yes he did. He dumped a belt so he wouldn't have to fight Byrd. Byrd was one of the best of his era.

true but lewis didnt duck the best of his era

Great post. Calzaghe did the same and should also be considered among the top 5o ATGs.
I wonder why Vitali never avenged his loss to Byrd if it was just a "freak" injury and would never happen a second time?

Cause Byrd wanted none of it again. The contract stated that he would have to fight either brother and if you remember, Vitaly was unavailble because of shoulder surgery so Wlad stepped in. Byrd just did a radio show interview where he was complaining of this rematch with Wladimir and how unfair it was, boohoo, he signed it. If Vitaly was healthy he would have fought him.
Don't act like Vitaly wasn't winning every round against Byrd. That was an operable injury, something that was confirmed. Unlike the "back injury" your girl Diva Gaye developed two weeks before the Wlad fight.

Yep, that's one of the stats that makes him great. But it's also promoters and contracts that get in the way of a lot of these rematches. Lennox was very smart to put a rematch clause in the contract that stipulated an immediate rematch. Rahman tried to get out of it and fight someone else but Lewis took him to court and won. Luck of the draw...
Wladimir Klitschko was not so lucky and neither was Vitaly.
Wladimir tried to get a fight with Brewster immediately after his loss but Don King didn't want it.
Vitaly, well we know that Lewis promised him a rematch and after he invited Vitlay to meet his mom and his mom "looked into Vitaly's eyes" and told her little boy not to fight Vitaly, he quickly retired.
So on the one hand, yes, he did fight everyone but he also committed one of the worst ducks in history by going back on his word and retiring because he was too afraid to face Vitaly again.
