This is a counter to the other thread.
Pac completely deserved it. Remember it's called FIGHTER of the decade, not boxer of the decade.
The criteria the writers/experts used to judge, was tailor made for pac's boxing personality, not floyds.
If the award was called BOXER of the decade, I can 100% guarantee you that it would have gone to floyd.
I don't see why flomos are so angry. Fighters are fighters and boxers are boxers. When you mix the two you will get exciting style match ups. I await to see this in november of 2010.
Floyd fans you should be happy that he won the award.
Isn't floyd a pure boxer?
Why would you want to be associated with an award that is irrelevant to your favourite boxer?
some additional input:
You're talking about the BWAA and their criteria, right? I'm in the BWAA and I'm telling you, not giving my opinion but the answer, that style of fighting and temperment was not a factor in the decision. It was on achievements.
If Yuri Foreman beat Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Cotto, Paul Williams, Mayweather and Oscar de la Hoya, he probably would have gotten it instead.
actually you have a point there. I agree.
lol, I didn't know you were in the BWAA. Sorry.
But yes, achievements is a stronger argument and if I'm not mistaken, pacquiao has held more ring titles hasn't he?
He also defeated a prime barrera.
Pacquiao completely shut out Clottey a top contender so has proven himself to be a good WW.
Marquez cant move up in weight as well as Pac.
But Clottey had a passive style defence, not an active/dynamic defence like floyd.
I think he respects him more as a man. JMM didnt trash talk Floyd or anything he was just grateful for the shot.
I know he respects his fight game too but Floyd knew JMM had nothing for him at that weight.
Which makes me wonder........How on earth does pacquiao stand a chance against floyd, after looking at what marquez did to him?
Yes I think he respects marquez fro the counter punching job he did on pacquiao. I think floyd really respects marquez's boxing brain.
I think he saw a bit of himself in Marquez, when he figured Pacquaio out.

Because he spent 21 months away and needed the rounds.
Marquez didnt even come close to winning one round. If Floyd turned the heat up he would've retired Marquez. He respects him.

why do you think he carried him then?
I see no reason to do so. He didn't go for the knock out because he couldn't.

Floyd wasnt trying to KO him. He carried him. You can just watch the fight to see that. Floyd had his way with him on offense and defense if he wanted to walk him down like he did Mosley JMM wouldve been a sitting duck.

He was fighting way above his natural weight and he still couldn't get knocked out by floyd.

are you sure marquez is a HOFer, I feel his resume a little short since he didnt get those decisions against pac and then no matter the weight floyd make him look like a fool

respectfully i disagree......barrerra stands out.....but most of the writers that voted prob also believe he lost to JMM both times. He also lost to Morales the first time.......he beat Morales in the rubber match coming off a loss.
- Hernandez (never lost @ the weight)
- Corrales (undefeated, prime and a KO% over 90)
- Castillo x 2 (prime + immediate rematch given to quell doubt)
- Gatti (crushed in 6 rds)
- Judah
- Baldomir (lineal)
- Hatton (undefeated)
- ODLH (154 pounds)
- JMM (dominant victory)
----> no question of Floyd's superiority except Casillo # 1.
vs
- Barrerra (excellent win given what Barrerra had done to the previos oppossition)
- Morales (lost when Erik was at his best. Subsequently won the rubber match against Erik after he lost to Raheem)
- JMM (A win and a draw------->both highly disputed
- Diaz (wekest beltholder)
- ODLH (severely weight drained and also shot---> Steve Forbes busted him up)
- Hatton (again Mayweather beat better versions of ODLH and Hatton)
- Cotto (lost badly to Margarito and won controversial decision against Clottey)
Also he hasn't been dominant.....think against the likes of Sanchez and Larios. Some of his best wins also came against men coming off dominant losses.
again maybe i am bias....BUT i fail to see anything that distinuguishes Manny.
in making comparison wins, you can't discredit one man's wins and up the others...
morales (elite fighter, never been kod)
jmm (kd 4 times, coming off a streak when manny faced him)
diaz (first fight at 135, dominated a paper holder)
oscar (fought him at 147, oscar's proposed weight, had 1 fight at 135, dominated him completely)
hatton (lineal titlist at the same weight)
cotto (atleast top 2 welterweight, second fight there, dominated him)
are you sure marquez is a HOFer, I feel his resume a little short since he didnt get those decisions against pac and then no matter the weight floyd make him look like a fool
JMM is a sure fire HOF'er.

it's a good point......maybe i'm too biased but i don't see any distinguishing features on Manny's resume that give him the nod ahead of PBF. Floyd's dominance has been challenged only once and he gave Castillo an immediate rematch. Both fighters share "big name" wins over ODLH and Hatton, yet Floyd beat better versions of both.
Hell I have my own biases as well...lol. Honestly I can see an argument for Floyd but I just know that those writers follow the sport closer than I do, so I personally can't argue against them or their decision.
barrera, morales, marquez..
now you can try to discredit those wins, but those are the fighters that separate floyd from manny

did floyd have a chance to fight these guys? no he didnt he was gone from their division before they were famous. marquez wanted to fight and floyd gave him the fight because there werent many options for a comeback fight and if you say mosley that has been taken care of. yea the fight would have been more fair at 140 but floyd cant make that weight and no one forced marquez to fight. Only thing I will say is that was a B itch move not to shed enough weight to get to 144
where did i say floyd had to face them?
manny was lucky in a sense that these 3 hofers were at the same division when he was peaking. some were saying this was the golden era of the featherweights.
floyd has had no competition available to him who are on morales, barrera, and marquez' level at the time were manny was facing them.
marquez was older and out of his comfortable weight class when floyd fought him. people expected jmm to be ko'd.
