Sorry I am a couple days late with his one but I didn't catch it live and just saw it last night.
As per usual Teddy Atlas couldn't stop himself from saying something stupid within the first 15 seconds of the fight.
"I have to say, these people are so excited up here about Lemiuex... I don't see it.... Not that I am a genius, I am far from it, I'm just not nearly as taken by Lemiuex as everyone around here is."
Of course in a matter of 90 seconds Lemieux managed to completely destroy Elvin Ayala, a man who went 12 rounds with Arthur Abraham.
Why the hell does Atlas feel compelled to start talking down about the main event fighter on an ESPN card before the fight has even gotten started?
And also, what the hell had Atlas seen that made him so skeptical? This guy Lemiuex is a goddamn animal.
That was the most impressive offensive performance I have seen on ESPN in a very, very long time.
Lemiuex should call Teddy Atlas up and tell him to kiss his Canuck Ass.
Atlas is like a negative broken record. Why would he downplay a fighter in the beginning of a fight that he is broadcasting? Doesn't he want people watch the ESPN Broadcast? Not that anyones really listening to what he's saying though.
Some fighters have 250-300 amateur fights, but Lemieux doesn't. And he's only 21.
If he went for a world title right now and got beaten, you would probably be the first to discredit him and call him a bum. No wonder his team doesn't want to take the risk.
You right I would call him a bum but at the same time I NEVER said for him to go for a world title. I just said step up that comp and dont give me that crap about amateur fights cause its plenty of fighters with low fights in amateurs that won titles.. Also David won won the Canadian Amateur Championship three times so it aint like he doesnt have an amateur background.
He is still a kid. He just took a step up and they should keep him there for a while. He only turned pro 3 years ago. He still needs things to work on like leaving himself open when throwing punches. He needs to work on his Jab more and simply tweak. Most of all he needs experience. He needs a couple seasoned guys who can extend him some. He needs that to learn his craft. He never learned jack sh!t from the Ayala fight. that is Ayala's fault though for trading. He would have been a great learning experience for Lemieux if he would have fought a smarter fight. He would have lasted some against Lemieux in there.
To put it another way. He has fought a total of 52 professional rounds. How quickly should he be thrown in with the wolves? He needs some more mileage in the tank. Why throw the kid in with the wolves when he is still Green?
Apologies on how I replied to you firstly. You right but he is with Russ Abner, he should of thought on fixing those habits instead of making a highlight reel for espn. I dont want to put him in the same category as Shawn Porter. Cause Porter looks the same from his early fights to now and its lookin the same for this guy.
What the hell you mean slowly as if 23 fights against complete bums isnt slow enough. You want him to face more trashcans that he obviously aint learning nothing from. He already went 10 rounds once. So its time for him to step it up.

He needs to be moved slowly. Keep him active with some fringe guys for a couple more fights then step up slowly. Place him in with some mobile guys that will give him some differeny looks. We will then know where he stands.

His footwork needs some work, but I disagree with him being "slow". He may not be lightning fast, but he seems to have decently quick mitts IMO. Also, Lack of Killer intinct? Give me a break! Please show me an example where he lacks killer instinct.

As for now, he seems like a damn good prospect. He may or may not make to to the top, but he is still great fun to watch.
There is nothing impressive about Lemieux, IMO.
His footwork is bad, he has bad hand speed, he takes shots from fighters that shouldn't land cleanly, his jab has zero crispness, he's not fast and he lacks killer instinct.
He isn't making waves for a reason after what? 20 or 21 fights? 22? And no it's not because he's Canadian or whatever you racist fellow countrymen want to say, it's because everything I said above is true. Teddy knows more about boxing than anybody in this thread and if I can see it, I'm sure Teddy see's more than I.
Omar Henry will absolutely emasculate him in the first 90 seconds, and take his head off in the next 60 seconds for a Round 1 KO.
Lacks killer instinct? Granted that I haven't seen much of Lemieux's fight outside of 2 of them, but the guy has 22 KOs in 23 fights. Hard to see where this assertion that Lemieux lacks killer instinct comes from, so what exactly are you basing that off of?
With that said, there was a fighter back in the late 40's that had decided to become a boxer after serving in the army. When he first went to the boxing gym to train, the trainer there told him to just go home to be with his family because he was too small, too slow, and lacked the footwork/technique to make it as a pro fighter. That fighter went on not only to become heavyweight champion, but he also would retire with a record of 49-0 to become the first and only undefeated Heavyweight champion to go out on top.
Now I am not saying he is the next Marciano or anything close to it, but I have heard this story before about a fighter being too small, too slow, etc to become anything special. Sometimes having a pumping heart, toughness, and a thing called "will" will take you places.
I heard this guy doesn't even know how to speak French :nonono
On a serious note Manfredo has won his last two fights at 160 and picked up an IBO belt.
There is nothing impressive about Lemieux, IMO.

good point! Omar Henry all the way
He is nothing really special to me until he steps up his competition. You guys are easily wowed by his power which is above average. He does have a nice hook. Right now I place him in the same Category as Tyrone Brunson. Tyrone was knockin out all his competitors with poor records just as David is doing and once he stepped it up he got knocked out.
I agree. Once a guy like Omar has 22 fights he'll be champion or a top contender.
This guy will never be a great champion.

Teddy usually has his mind made up before the fight starts... so even when Lemiuex turned it up and was knockin the snot out of Ayala he was saying something to the effect of what a poster said on here about "If Ayala can survive the round he will win this... the only way Lemiuex can beat this guy is THAT RIGHT THERE! JUST LIKE I SAID IN THE FIGHT PLAN!!!"
LMAO! Like the only reason Lemiuex won is because he 'followed Teddys fightplan'. That's what annoys me about Teddy the most, because he comes into the fight with a certain opinion about a fighter, he talks that opinion up so much during the fight that even when the opponent is doing some good work - it's usually overlooked or more accurately being overtalked by him.
TBH though even though I didn't see the fight with AA/Ayala, Lemiuex and AAs sytles are totally different. Basing the fact that Ayala went 12 rounds with AA isn't really good indicator of what kind of fighter Ayala is/was. Ayala had little to no head movement or movement in general against a come forward, multi-punch pressure fighter like Lemiuex - but I take nothing away from Lemiuex... he did what he was supposed to do and looked great doing it.

I noticed that too but he has to someone decent before we can say Teddy is wrong. I like Teddy he talks bollocks sometimes but he's quite knowledgable too
Not to say Lemieux won't be good, but I heard Ayala had weight issues coming into this fight and either way he's far removed from his best days. It's probably not fair to compare what Lemieux did against him to what Arthur Abraham did against him.
Really? Is that why Teddy picked Ayala to win? :lol1:
At which point did Teddy make a prediction? I don't remember Atlas making any predictions prior to the fight.
Esp a guy like Ayala who has never been very good and coming off a loss.

Manfredo has fought at 160 for a while now. He weighed 159 1/4th in his last two fights and is the current "IBO Middleweight Champion"
Lemieux has stepped up in each of his last couple of fights. He wiped out Walid Smichdt in 2 rounds. Then Ayala in one. I think he's ready to step it up to better comp.
What's interesting to me though is that he couldn't KO Jason Naugler and Donovan George, a prospect from chicago, KOd him in 4 rounds. Check out George if you haven't. Dude has his flaws, but his power is scary and he's very exciting.
i was going to post this too , george has wicked power too , it'd be great to see him and lemeiux fight down the road
David Lemieux looks promising, the sport needs yet another good exciting fighter with power and a strong following. I was also impressed with his accuracy.
I agree, someone above said he is sloppy and wide open, they couldn't be more wrong.
Reckless? Yeah, maybe.
But his left hook is short and compact, anyone who tries to hook with him at 160 is getting KTFO.
His right hand is deceptive and very straight, he hit Ayala with a couple beautiful leads.
