in a interview miguel cotto states that he's not held in high standard in puerto rico or in the world of boxing. He said because of his personality and said that he would not change his character, and will continue to be the way he is!
he has the respect of everybody, but a lot of people do not see him as embrace-able mostly because the dude acts like a respectable adult (outside of his marriage issues). he doesn't talk shit, he doesn't act a fool. just wants to keep to himself and to his family.
Miguel isnt a bad person. He just has a serious face and quiet personality when hes around the media and press. Im sure hes different with his family and friends - like most of us all are.
The only people in PR who dont like him are the ones who are stuck on Trinidads balls like if he still boxes or even doing anything for PR at the moment. Also the ones who ive found tobe ignorant. I live in Newark, NJ where North nwk is considered mini-puerto rico and i see Miguel cotto t shirts all the time. especially from elder people. Hes loved over here.
and im pretty sure hes well respected. Miguel has given his due to the sport.
I think he's liked. He and we also have to rerember he was the next star after tito for puerto rico. And tito might be the most popular if not out of all the great boxers that came out of puerto rico. Not a great position for cotto but he has fought the best and fought his heart out, and was humble in loss and win and I think thats good enough for most fans. There are prolly still fans that wish he was more charasmatic but thats just not him. And i comend him on bein him and not some one he is not. WAR MIGUEL COTTO
why would he changed his personality? he is right with that position. why need a respect, if u would be happy with yourself.
The need to be respected (especially when no one respects you) is an innate need of every person. You can't be human when you don't need respect.
But I agree with you, Cotto need not change his personality, why would he? There are still people who believe in him and who respect him as a boxer! That is more than enough. He doesn't have to change his personality just to please everyone in PR and in the boxing world.
“Zapatero a su zapato. El entrenador está para entrenar no está para criticar. El éxito ajeno provoca coraje y al final del camino se resume en envidia. Entiendo que no soy muy idolatrado aquí en Puerto Rico y en el mundo de boxeo por mi manera de ser, pero es mi manera de ser y no puedo hacer nada al respecto”, dijo. “(En 154) Me sentí muy bien. Desplazamientos cómodos, manos rápidas y con ánimo de pelear. En todo momento tuvimos deseos de pelear”.

Mad propz. He doesn't need to change just for people to like him. He has/makes enough money...
