I see th terms "good chin" or "great chin" thrown around all the time....but what do you consider a great chin:
A fighters ability to take a punch anywhere to his body, or ability to take a punch only to the head?
billy collins jr. has a great chin aswell....remember when he fought luis resto in 1983? resto use some plater and took some padding out of his gloves, but still collins manage to survive for 10 rounds....what a heart and chin he had
LaMotta is recognized as having one of the best chins in boxing. In the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, his sixth bout with Robinson, LaMotta suffered numerous sickening blows to the head. Commentators could be heard saying "No man can take this kind of punishment!" But LaMotta did not go down. The fight was stopped by the referee in the 13th round, declaring it a TKO victory for Robinson.
Only went down when he was shot and way past his prime. Ali has a great chin but he had way more skills than LaMotta to avoid taking such big blows.
Ok fair enough. Ray robinson was a ferocius puncher. Sorry I went over the top there. But please just have a look at my earnie shavers video.
sorry for the outrage.:fing02:
EDIT: yes I do agree with the comment about Ali's skills.
Agreed, people overlook a fighter's chin due to one TKO/KO loss. ANYONE can be knocked out or stopped. Not a Cotto fan and not defending him but his losses came to a questionable Margarito and Pacquiao.....what do you expect? Sure Cotto has a chin! it's just not an ATG chin.
Ali got knocked down by Henry Cooper so not the PERFECT example.
PERFECT example would be Jake LaMotta who took SRR best hits and wasnt knocked down until late on his carrear.
He was looking at liz taylor from ringside with his private parts erupting, you idiot.
DOn't make false assuptions until you know the facts.
ALI is the PERFECT example of a DIAMOND chin.
You........................are..........................a.....................joke
It's funny how you ignored my earnie shavers video. Also how many DIFFERENT punchers did lamota fight?
Lets see if you can answer this question.
Only to the head. Anybody's chin can be cracked of course, but I'd consider a guy to have a good chin if he can absorb a decent amount of head shots without it affecting his game or his performance. A great chin is one that can absorb sickening levels of head-snapping punishment without apparent ill effect.
Ability to take good all round shots is what I'd call toughness.
thank you for that legendary quote about yuri foreman(refer to sig). How did you come up with it?

Good points, because i always hear "this guy could take a punch, because he has a good chin", but taking a hard punch to the body is harder to recover then a good punch to the head
Ali...PERFECT example of a great chin.
Floyd Jr. has a good chin, too. Every time he's been hit flush on the jaw, he's never really lost composure.
Miguel Cotto has a great chin.
I also think Cotto has a great chin too, i mean hes been TKO'd 2 times but by the 2 biggest punchers out there and was never close to being KO'd

Mainly fighters who can take punches to the face and the chin is the most critical spot.
