Cotto vs Mayweather

If Pac vs May cant be made I think coming in at a super strong second would be May vs Cotto. That would really be a determining factor for who stands where in all time greatness in our era of the 147lb division. Leonard Hearns Duran all did it during the 70s-80s so lets hope history can repeat itself and we see them all fight each other Well, only Pac and Cotto have shown the balls to face anybody. May is content with cashing checks he's sure to win.

I dont think Cotto can outjab Floyd, His jab is good but so is Mosley's and whenever he tried to jab Floyd pull countered over his jab with the right hand or left hook. I think a simular thing would happen with Cotto, Mayweather has longer arms and would be able to time him with the straight right hand. Which is his best punch... Cotto's jab is two levels above Mosley's. Mosley is not a boxer, he's a quick brawler, now that he's slowed down he's basically become a slugger. The last time he used his jab effectively and was outboxed was in the Cotto fight. Cotto's jab also has power behind it, and can cause cumulative damage, Mosley's jab is more like a check, distance measure etc, it's very weak. Don't confuse his straight shots with the jab itself.

Mosley does have a jab but like Cotto, he doesnt use it enough. If you watch the fights with De La Hoya, Shane does well when he jabs and wins rounds but he always abandons the jab because he wants to fight too much. His jab was working in the first couple of rounds against Floyd but Floyd was countering him so much he just went into defensive mode. He didnt know what to do, because whenever he tried he just got hit with the jab and right hand... Cotto has only lost to Margarito (Who cheated) and Pacquiao so he still has credibility as a top fighter. Having said that he was outboxed for parts against Clottey and Mosley and also Malignaggi. If Cotto was to fight Floyd I see him trying to get inside with the jab and being hit alot with Floyd's jab and right hand. Floyd is a counter puncher so Miguel would have to get inside to beat him. I dont think it would happen I think Floyd would win most of the rounds if they fought The Mosley who fought ODLH was far faster back then, probably the same speed as Floyd is today, watching Mosley vs Cotto from 2007 is enough to show you how much stronger Cotto's jab is than Mosley's.

By your logic, if you have watched Miguel Cotto fight often you would see that when STYLES MAKE FIGHTS Cotto vs Mayweather would eb dead even. Mayweather may have speed and quick reaction time BUT Cotto can put combos together and time any fighter in the 147 lb division. Mayweather gives his opponents space as well, which is beneficial for Cotto to not get winded. Stylistically, Cottos best performances have come from fighting boxers and counter punchers alike. Brawlers and pressure fighters are his weakness which is why he almost lost to Torres and why he has a loss to Pacquiao and Margarito.

LOL you do realize that everyone mayweather and Cotto have fought mutually Cotto has either beaten more decisively or fought a less worn down opponent. Judah, Corley, Mosley and theres a long list to that. I think Margarito Cheated and Pacquiao is the greatest fighter this decade. To beat Cotto you have to pressure him and not let him breathe. Mosley's flicker jab and shaky movement is easier to counter and see coming than Cotto, Mosley was only dangerous for one round with the 1-2 and after than Mayweather solved him instanstly. Cotto's jab so far has only really been beaten by 1 massive welterweight with an amazing chin and the p4p #1 who threw so many punches from many different angles at insane speed at him. UD win for mayweather. if cotto comes in aggressive he'll get countered all night and there is no way he can outbox mayweather. and as we saw in the mosley fight, floyd can take a punch and recover very quickly too, if he gets hit. Mosley doesnt put combos together like Cotto does. Hell Mosley doesnt have the Jab or left hook that Cotto has. I still think this is a fight to be made that would be AMAZING

Is Cotto the only fighter around Floyd's size who could time Floyd to some success with the jab? Cotto had that down again and it was very impressive, always wanted to see them go at it and still wouldn't mind it now despite all that's gone on. I think honestly the only two fighters that stand a chance at beating Floyd mayweather are Cotto and Pacquiao. Just based on simple stylistic standpoints.

I like Cotto's chances, especially if he can be consistent with that well timed jab of his. If this fight does happen, I hope cotto is a big underdog so I can put some cash on him.

i disagree with that! Mosley has no jab and there for no chance to get to Floyd, although Cotto is slower than Shane his insane timing actually makes him more dangerous of an opponent. Floyd kept Shane off way too easily for my liking, Cotto is more of a natural aggressor too and would fit the role better than Mosley.

I'll enjoy this just like I enjoyed Floyd-Gatti. Cotto should make sure they keep the ambulance ready for him near the ring.

I think Mayweather's legs are too good for Cotto, see Foreman uses lots of lateral movement but comes in straight on the line when he attacks, thats why he got caught with so many left hooks, when Mayweather uses lateral movement he punches of the angle, meaning whilst your resetting he is attacking you, that why its hard to counter him, of coarse if Cotto could get the jab off against him he might do well, but Foreman fights pretty square, has not glove defense when moving, Mayweather can parry and slip.
