Should Yuri Foreman Hang Up The Gloves?
With all the hype this Yuri Boreman got: The "Boxing Rabbi" , "Israels first world champion", "The Zion Lion", "Star of David" , "Kosher kid", "Bagel boy". I knew this guy was going to get knocked out, He was clearly not world class and a paper champion. But he was grossly over-hyped by everyone, Bob Arum, HBO, Elie Seckbach. He was made out to be the next Sugar Ray Leonard, That the fight between Foreman and Cotto was like Ray Leonard Vs Hagler (..Foreman being the Ray Leonard obviously!:omfg:) I think we all got sick of hearing about him.
Not only that I think Bob Arum and Foreman tried to exploit Cotto thinking he was on the slide and that he would lie down for Foreman. They got a shocker and I felt very satisfied when I saw Bob Arums face after Foreman got knocked out.
No hes still a young fighter he just has to fix his knee and he'll be all good. He probably aint gonna be a champ again but probably a good contender.
Read above.
He should still fight on. It was just one fight.
But if he never fights again I wont shed a tear.
Thats understandable. What annoys me the most is the over-hype, I mean the guy was being promotoed everywhere at parades, on television, on the internet, radio, even in newspapers.
But I think he should retire for the following reasons:
1. Foreman was Over-hyped: He was sold as the next sugar ray Leonard and lost the first time he fought a decent opponent.
2. Fore has a bad leg injury. He has zero punching power so for a boxer that runs around the ring for 12 rounds it doesnt bode well.
3. Foreman has no power in his punches: If your opponents cant respect your power your going to get used as a punching bag, I dont want to see the guy in a coma.
4. The gravy train is over, It was nice to be Israels first world champion and the hype, But its all downward from here, I dont see him getting a world title again. He got his biggest pay-day and its over now.
Atleast he didn't get knocked over by a clubfighter in one round. Just saying.
I agree the man was getting more hype than he deserved though. It was his first real test against a top class fighter and he was outclassed. He can still fight on though, as long as his knee holds up. He reminds me of Tony Janiro, a boxer from the 1950's with a similar style, who also had knee problems. Janiro was below the very best, but he could beat anyone else.
Ohhhhhhhhh :boxing:
I like the Janiro comparison :fing02:
