You heard me. People praise him because Cotto won and Yuri showed a shitload of balls, but could you imagine if Foreman somehow came back and won? Every Cotto fan would be complaining that it should be overturned and that Foreman's corner gave up.
Regardless of who threw the towel (which I think it was the corner), Yuri was seriously hurt. He had major balls to fight on, but Mercante AT LEAST should have taken him to the doctor to have Foreman checked out.
There was no sign of the doctor even close to the ring. The corner going into the ring should have been an automatic DQ to boot. It was crazy the fight went on.
Arthur is the man, he lets them fight. I did noticed how upset he got when foreman kept falling. He actually says **** in one of them funny shit
Truth is the guy's border-line. He does have experience as a referee, so that he (or people think he) can stop the fights right on the edge of legality (and that plays good for the show) but like I said, he enjoys being in the spotlight too much. He wants to become, I don't know... Like "The first big-mouthed referee of aaawl tyyymes"... He's too reckless to be "the man", as you say (and any reasonable man who has watched the two videos below would agree), but he's enough confident due to his father's "good word" in the business and probably also to his connection with boxing-involved mob or similar.
Evidence against Mercante jr:

I love how he always acts so upset when a low blow happens.
Forrest low blows Quartey... OH VERNON, COME ON!
He about shed some tears Avril style when Cotto low blowed Judah twice.
Lol, what a jerkoff. Daddy must be "proud" of him :(
Really, how sad is that for the memory of Mercante sr., a really worth professionist, that is son is such an ass... Instead of honoring his father's job, he takes advantage of it to play it lazy. What a disgrace :pat:
Man I wish that someday he gets a flying punch and takes a trip to the canvas, that would be some HBO boxing classic material. :owned:

I started disliking Mercante in the Cotto-Judah fight.
He seems more interested in how many times he can use the term "suck it up" than doing an effective job of managing the fight
Yo Mercante, it's about the fighters, not about you!
Arthur Mercante jr. is a disgrace to boxing. It's not the first time that I see him having such an attitude like in the Cotto-Foreman fight. Problem is he likes to stay in the limelight, and he doesn't pay enough attention to the fighters' safety: he's probably too busy showing his pretty face to the cameras. But somebody should explain him that punches hurt.
He also doesn't show the minimum passion for his work. He should've been banned already but I presume he has influent friends up there. What a disgrace.
Let's not forget though that Mercante Jr. is responsible for numerous late stoppages. He lets the fights go until the very end, no matter what situation.
What I like about him is that he does force the fighters to fight. Clottey would have probably quit against Cotto if given the chance.
Honestly, you're telling me if Yuri cameback and KOd Cotto you wouldn't be crying that Foreman's corner gave up and how Cotto should have won?
If people complained about that it wouldnt make arthur wrong it would just give stuff for fans to talk shit about.
There was no reason the fight should have stopped i think. Mercante did a good job.

marcante did a great job, and he followed the rules to a Teeeeeeee! he couldn't have done a better job with all that. also, marcante called " TIME OUT " at that point the cornermen could enter the ring. if you don't believe so, just look at the mayweather-judah fiasco, as much as I and everyone thought floyd would've been DQ'd because of roger coming into the ring, steele had called " time out " so entering the ring is legal and not ground for DQ.
also, only the referee can stop the fight, if you were paying attention the state rules and the sanctioning rules, you would've known that........
both refs last night did a impeccable job..
Come on Warp..man up bro!
I usually agree wit u..but this is bullshit..Foreman wanted to continue..and Mercante let him..he wasn't on queer street or out of his senses..he knew exactly what was goin on and decided to continue..
Clottey was a fukkin joke in the Cotto fight..he overreacted the slam
when all Cotto did was shed him off of him..and also overreacted the rabbit punch..he was hoping Cotto would get a point deducted..
Mercante keeps it real..and gives the fans what they want..if that fight would have gotten stopped wit that bullshit towel throw..a lot of casuals would have been turned off..it was great reffing from Mercante..
Sometimes a fighter's safety should be looked at moreso then the fighter's decision to fight. I mean he gave him the chance to fight on, but Foreman went down again off his knee. He could barely stay up on his own. Giving him a chance is debatable and I see your point there, even though I disagree, but Foreman going down because of his knee time after time shows he was in no condition to fight.
I'm sure everyone who says they wouldn't be upset if Foreman won, bitched at Martinez-Cintron. Kind of a similar situation where the ref ****ed up. Only this time a terrible scoring decision wasn't made and Foreman didn't actually get KOd.
I think your exaggerating Foreman's leg injury.
It went under him once and the second time he slipped. After that his leg locked a couple times but besides that he did ok.
It wasn't like Cotto was battering him round after round and then the injury happened. he didn't take alot of punishment before the injury and he didn't really take that much after it. He certainly got more hittable though.
If Foreman had come back to win it would've proven that he made the right decision.
I guess, but you'd have even more controversy. This place would be a shit storm.
he was in pain no doubt about it but if he would have quit or said he couldnt fight anymore (quitting) people would have bashed him for it...even if it was a legimate injury which it obviously was...he still would have gotten heat from it...what Yuri did was amazing. He stood in there after the injury and tried to bang wit Cotto but in the end...that liver shot sealed the deal. Yuri still one hell of a boxer in my book.
Oh I agree with this. Yuri showed a ton of heart and it was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. I picked Foreman to win, but he was in over his head and he had a legit injury.
This is boxingscene, everyone gets shit. The corner would have made the right decision.
