is the perfect fighter for WCB cards on HBO at the moment....
he deserves much better than doing Boxing After Dark, especially now that he is probably one of the biggest names holding a belt at 154..
BUT, he's at that point in his career where there's still a lot of lingering questions and we dont know how his stamina is or what kind of punishment he can take, so i DO NOT want to see him headlining PPV cards.
HBO has long been in love with him, he can make a decent amount of money doing WCB cards for them... please please please dont price yourself too high so that you're stuck doing only PPV...
this is the kind of guy HBO could put on a main event and have a prospect or two fight on the undercard. he'll draw a decent gate in the right locations....
IMO he still has a few good fights in him, im curious to see him against someone with a little more pop on their punches or a little more pressure but this win was good for him... it keeps him from falling too far from grace..
Cotto is ok but Arum will always try to get him on PPV's anymore.
I think last night was an anomaly.
i know what Arum will TRY to do... i just think the love affair between cotto and HBO as well as the strong PR base he has is best served on regular WCB cards
Who would you like to see cotto fight next?????
i would like to see cotto fight pac(if the may-pac fight dont happen) or marg(but i dont think cotto wants to fight marg again and marg cant fight in USA yet) or a top 154lber(pwilliams, martinez)
hard to say... maybe cintron... i'd like him to stay at 154 because from what i saw he had better stamina last night.. but he is a little short so its tough... either way, it should be exciting.
it is what it is. got KOd badly fight before last, took a chance moving up and gave us an idea what he would be like at 154. IMO he still got a lot of work to do with Emanuel but can't deny that I saw some improvements. I think his stamina will be better at this weight class, but still got some work to do.
yeah, im curious about how well him and steward can work together this late in both of their careers
Actually he had been making millions per fight ever since HBO started airing his fights. I am not sure what he made for last nights fight, but the smallest paycheck he received for years before it, PPV or not, was 4 million per fight. B.A.D would not be able to pay him enough. Not enough money gets budgeted to those fights. This was only a tiny transition for him. He will move back to WCB after this.
He is still very marketable with tons of fans. He will keep making big paydays. If you have fans, you will make money. With Stewart's help he just may become very formidable again as well. Another win and he is back on PPV for sure.
yeah, i know man, im aware of what he WAS doing... im just glad that he got the W to keep him from having to fall to BAD cards or TR PPVs....
i just dont want Arum to go the OTHER end of the extreme and have him on HBO PPVs going forward...
He's got maybe 3-4 fights left I think. Taking on so many bangers takes its toll. He'll have to change his style a bit, work on the defence, and be a calm, collected, composed guy that breaks you down slowly.
Problem is the 154 lb's out there are agressive mofo's.
