by no power i mean not enough to keep your opponent honest. i.e. he can rush in without having to worry about getting dropped or stunned/hurt.
i am thinking, and this may be obvious, that boxers like this can never really beat true A level competition.
Spot on my friend, if you watch some early Calzaghe bouts you will actually see that his style is much more based on one-hit-wonder, he was hitting hard back then. Record was someting like 33 (30 KO) or something like that. He adopted the pitty-pad-flurry style because his hands did not allow him to continue with the old.
Yeah, It's obvious he wasnt a feather puncher because of his record. Even if he didnt knock out world class opposition it doesnt mean he didnt have knockout power, I remember him flooring Eubank in their fight. And I can't remember anyone else dropping Eubank other than Collins so it was clear he had some pop. I didnt follow much of his career but there is clearly a difference in style from the Calzaghe who fought Eubank to the one who fought Kessler and Hopkins. He changed his style
But didnt Calzaghe have these hand problems that really stopped him from punching hard? Im not sure about it but he did stop quite a few people during his SMW reign although none of them were really top fighters....

Really i think i would have to go with Calzaghe.

I know right?? Who was great on Winky's resume?? Only Trinidad maybe. But Burner will come up with Mosley on how Mosley was the #1 welterweight, blah blah.
Mosley and Trinidad are the only "great" fighters on his resume but he did beat alot of good fighters like Ike Quartey, Bronko McKart (3 times), Sam Soliman, Angel Hernandez. And of course there is some of his losses which really should be wins. He clearly beat Fernando Vargas...
mayweather at ww is a great example of " keeping you honest"power.
at 154 agaisnt oscar, i agree with you, even though u were joking.
wink is a great example.... come to think of it, joe cal's fights agaisnt kessler and bhop are both fights that he literally won by bitchslapping the entire fight... (i know he had to fight like that because of hand issues though)..
To be fair he did really hurt Kessler to the body. Against Bhop he really had to shorten up his punches because he wasn't going to hit him all night otherwise.
I think Calzaghe still had some pop even at the end when he actually committed to a power shot which was never. He was just punching by numbers
If there is anyone that you can say...
It would have to be Chris Byrd. His defence was so good that he didnt need power. His boxing skills and defence was so good that he didnt have to hit his opponents hard to win fights against the likes of David Tua and Evander Holyfield.
Chris Byrd easily comes to mind he was the primo definition of no power, and at heavyweight he managed to hold the title for quite sometime.
I would say any fighter that won a world title with less than 10 KOs on his record.. Off the top of my head I can think Yuri Foreman, Paul Malignaggi and Sergio Mora
yuri and paulie arent A level fighters despite having belts imo. but u are def correct in that they are "accomplished" like i put in the title. could u imagine a foreman kierkland fight? he could get killed....
It's hard to judge because any fighter could just walk through a feather fisted fighters shots and keep punching at him with limited consequence.
You need to have enough power for the other guy to respect you at least

Mayweather.... whaaat?? :lol1:

I'm not going to lie, I didn't think of calderon until I saw the thread, and that might be the obvious answer. Wright has decent pop imo. If you say WInky, you have to say Calzaghe.
Cory Spinks came to mind.
Im not sold on him having power. He just didnt have it. He wasnt a Malmagii type but he wasnt a vicoous puncher either.
^^^ most boxers arnt vicious punchers tho, winky has 25 kos that isnt feather fisted. yuri foreman is feather fisted but wouldnt says he's elite.

He just out boxed Tito. The jab owned him.
Remember Winky-Quartey? Winky threw over 1,000 punches and couldnt stop Ike. After the fight he said he tried to stop him.
Yeah but I really think it just wasnt his style, I mean he didnt try to knock guys out. His movement and defence was a key part of his game but he could attack guys if he needed to. The best example is the fight with Vargas, Don't get me wrong im not saying he was a puncher but he did have some pop
The fight with Tito was his best performence, His jab and movement just threw Tito right off. But if you watch the whole fight, He did hurt him a couple of times. The Quartey fight is simular, He did drop Ike though and Ike is a tough guy.
I think he did have pop, not much but he did have some...
