Dat right(as they say in the hip hop community).I think people tend to forget just how packed Cotto's resume is.He lost a couple a big fights to a guy who was voted fighter of the decade and a true Mexican warrior who virtually everyone from 147-154 avoided for so long, but his resume is deep enough to ensure him a place in the hall of fame providing he beats foreman.
All that is missing is the tag of "three division world champion".
I would hope that Cotto has the support of all the true boxing fans come this saturday.
Miguels had a great career, better than most give him credit for but this win will not put him over the top. Although there are a ton of fighters in the hall who have less of a resume I feel that Miguel needs one more big fight or even two more big names. He should beat Berto down and one other fighter(maybe of a Martinez level). Then he would be in the hall. Considering how many people are taking Foreman though, Miguel should get loads of credit for this win.
You just said it yourself,"there are a ton of fighters in the hall who have less of a resume".
Cotto has enough established fighters, who fought, competed and won titles on a world class level, on his resume already.
You don't need to necessarily be an ATG to enter the hall of fame.
wins over
judah
clottey
quintana
malinaggi
torres
mosley
nice wins no doubt but not sure if they're hall of fame worthy right now
I agree, but the losses have to be taken into account as well. He did well against plasterito and Manny at least early, wasn't like 1 round KO's. I'd say he's in if he wins for the third belt and who knows, he might have another big fight or two if he gets in there with Marg and/or Pac/Floyd ever. Its possible from a Marg win with either of those two, his career isn't over, but I'd say he's right on the cusp to the HoF.
cotto's a sure hall of famer even without yuri foreman on his resume, fought the best at ww and has two controversy defeats, cotto beats foreman this saturday though..
I disagree I feel Cotto has had a very good career but he has not had a Hall of Fame career. IMO Cotto was never a great fighter he barely was above average to me. Wouldn't get my vote if I was a voter I would be suprised if he got in.
Being that Foreman hasn't beat anyone who's very good, I don't think so...
This is not true.Daniel Santos is a proven world class fighter. It's true that Santos is at the end of his career and was coming off of a long layoff, but he was handled so easily by foreman that it's difficult to not count it as anything but a good win.
resume's aren't based on just one name.Cotto will be adding foreman to an already established, deep resume.
Pfft. Yeah right! Foreman is gonna waste Cotto!
But I do agree that Cotto is a future hall of famer. I consider him to be the best welterweight of the last decade.
